I am here. In Ho Chi Minh City. On this day. And I couldn’t be more grateful.

I’ve been talking with a couple of friends I met in the US and Canada while travelling through Asia over a decade ago — and we’ve all been saying the same thing… how much Vietnam has changed.
More commercial. More expensive. And unfortunately, it’s less authentic.

And then today happened. I got off the beaten track not far from a hospital appointment this afternoon I had a 90-minute massage for about $18 AUD.

I wondered down a quiet little laneway and had a deliciously refreshing coconut for $1 AUD.
And one of the best meals I’ve had here — for around $2 AUD.

This is the Vietnam I know! This is the Vietnam I love and have missed.

No menus designed for tourists. No inflated pricing.
No performances. Just real people.

I tried to tip her — three times, she refused.
Her husband eventually graciously accepted. That says everything and reminded me that Vietnam hasn’t changed — you just have to look a little harder now, know who to trust and know where to go.

Arriving into Ho Chi Minh last night, it hits you in the face.

That instant unmistakable shift is like walking into a wall of heat, with thick, heavy tropical humidity.

This vibrant city together with this intense heat combined with chaotic high-stakes bustling traffic neon lights and sounds is a sensory overload.

The chaos is organised and the energy is electric. It is almost like miraculously stepping into an alternate reality, the reality I have literally dreamed about and one that is now real.

Oh Vietnam, I have missed you…. ❤️🇻🇳

I’m so excited for the next chapter and the next few weeks ahead — and the opportunities this creates for both Vietnam and my clients at NipTuck Holidays in Australia.
