DLD is a lifelong, neurodevelopmental condition that affects someone’s ability to use or understand language.

Children with DLD may have difficulty expressing their thoughts clearly, understanding instructions, challenges in the classroom or difficulty with social interactions.

We will continue sharing resources and information on DLD, to spread awareness 💻

❓So what is the Lidcombe Program?

The Lidcombe Program is an internationally recognised, evidence-based treatment for young children who stutter 🏅

🌼 It empowers you to take an active role in supporting your child’s fluency

🌼 It focuses on positive feedback, helping to strengthen the parent–child relationship

🌼 It’s designed to be flexible, so it can be tailored to your family’s unique needs and circumstances

Children under 6 who stutter are 7.5 times more likely to recover with the Lidcombe Program than without treatment

Hi everyone 🌼 A little info about who we are, what we do and our amazing team!! 🥳

We deliver speech and OT services to rural kiddos from alllllll over Australia!

We have little ones join our ZOOM rooms from so many places including:

🌼 Their school rooms
🏡 At home, before or after school
📚 At school
🏠 Or Parent Coaching
🚙 From their caravan whilst travelling Australia

We love the service we are able to provide, and meeting people from all corners of Australia 🫶🏼

Something a little different - but had to post these 🌸 Hopefully they brighten your day, just as much as they have brightened mine 🩷

We have had a busy week so far across the Blossom Rural team. It’s looked a little like this:

👩🏼‍💻 Speechie Soph has finished a new PD (which we are super excited to share with you!)

🌻 Some beautiful wins, things we are grateful for and new ideas shared in our “winter warmers” and “Team Meeting” catch ups 🥶❄️

🥰 Some more PD and learning being completed tonight by 2 of us!

📆 Collaboration between our admin Brookie and our Speechies, to ensure calendars are nicely organised and looking their best, for the new term!

🥳 Sorting out background details involving some very exciting news… coming soon 🤩😁

❔Ever heard a child say “cool” or “sool” instead of “school” or maybe “wing” instead of “swing”!?

This is a process we call cluster reduction.

We typically see this process in children under the age of 4. However, if your child is still having difficulty after this point, it would be worth checking in with a Speech Pathologist 💻

✅ Typical up to around age 4
🌼 If it’s sticking around longer, we can help!

It may look like this:
🕷️ “pider” for spider
🥄 “poon” for spoon
💙 “boo” for blue

A huge congratulations to our Speechie Soph for a very exciting day - her Uni Graduation 🌼🙌🏼

Our team are all very proud of you, Soph 🤩🥂

Soph also walked away with some special awards including a Certificate of Achievement for Improving rural health access award & an Academic Achievement Award 😍

Woweeee, today we celebrated Erin’s 3 year workiversary 🫶🏼🩷 (forgot to get the group shot with our ZOOM backgrounds - whoops 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️)

I for one, cannot believe Erin has been a part of our team for THREE years 🤯 Where has the time gone!

Erin is one of our brilliant OTs (check out the reel below reintroducing her) but also our resident fashionista and such a laugh 🫶🏼

Erin was one of our first team members so this is a rather big moment!

Erin and Speechie Kate joined our team in the same week, way back then 🌼 This honestly feels like yesterday but a lifetime ago, all at the same time!

Over this time, Erin has helped so many beautiful families & their children via telehealth, who would otherwise had no option 🙌🏼

She has also been a wonderful friend to me and our team - and been a massive help in shaping the service we are today 🥰

We love you Erin and thank you for everything you do, day in, day out. 🥂🫶🏼 - Em xx

We celebrated our wonderful OT Erin’s birthday today 🎂🥳🫶🏼🤩🙌🏼

We also jumped into a quick 15 minutes of Pilates and stretching, which was very nice 🧘‍♀️

A big welcome to our new Admin SUPERSTAR, Brooke 🩷✨

Brooke joined us a few weeks ago now and has settled in absolutely amazingly 🫶🏼 We all feel very lucky to have Brooke in the virtual office!!!

Brooke is in the office, Monday-Thursday, answering calls on 0408850775 and emails through our admin and intake inboxes!

A little bit about Brooke 🌻

My name is Brooke I’m new to the Blossom Rural team!

I’ve been working in medical reception/admin roles for 10 years and love it. I really enjoy creating a great rapport with clients and helping with any questions/queries they may have.

I live in Central Victoria with my partner Josh, our two dogs and cat.

In my free time I love to read (anything fiction, romance, suspense, thrillers, horror), gardening, listening to music/true crime podcasts or being outside. 🌻

I am really excited to be joining the blossom rural team and seeing what we can achieve together.

A quick snap of our team today before we jumped into our fortnightly Multi-D Meeting 🌸🫶🏼

We ticked off a lot today!! 🥳🥳🥳 Always a wonderful feeling 👏

So great to refresh things and put our heads together to brainstorm new and more efficient ways of doing our Initial Consults 🤩

Before we complete our Initial Consultations, we ask parents and caregivers to complete our Intake Forms 👩🏼‍💻

These allow for us to prepare for the consult, learn a bit more about your child and guide the conversation ✨

We also made some tweaks to our intake form on our website, to make it easier for referrers (parents/guardians/teachers) to identify goals for therapy 💻

These team meetings are a great time to get together as a team on ZOOM - To upskill, ask questions and share wins 🫶🏼 (Also always some good laughs and conversations 🥰)

🌼 PART 2 ✨ Following on from our previous post about ‘After School Restraint Collapse’… here are some wonderful tips from OT Daisy 🫶🏼

Recap - ‘After-school restraint collapse’ is a very common occurrence for many children.
It is term used for when kids come home after a long day of school or daycare
feeling very overwhelmed, which often escalates to anger, yelling, frustration
and meltdowns 😓😭

To support your child in these moments, it is important to expect these emotions after a big day ✨

🌷 Think of some strategies:

Put your thinking cap on and have a think about what little strategies work for your child.

✨ What do they like? What helps them when they are upset?

Maybe it’s:
🍉 having a snack
🚰 having a drink
🚽 going to the toilet
🛌 having a lay down in the aircon/in front of the fireplace
⚽️ running around kicking the ball outside

Allowing them to de-stress and decompress for a few moments, before asking them to unpack their bag, do their homework, etc. may prevent a
meltdown ☺️
