This week, we’ve had the pleasure of hosting Chelsea for her Allied Health Certificate placement here at Thrive Medical. 🧡
Originally from the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, Chelsea is currently completing Year 12 while boarding in Adelaide. During her placement, she had the opportunity to explore a variety of allied health professions—including Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, and even a quick look into our Imaging department!
It’s been an absolute joy having Chelsea as part of our team, and we hope she enjoyed her time in Broken Hill as much as we enjoyed having her. We wish her all the very best as she completes her Allied Health Certificate and Year 12—and we hope to welcome her back to the Silver City again soon!
At Thrive, we’re proud to support the next generation of health professionals through hands-on learning experiences. Whether it’s a school-based placement or a university internship, we believe in creating meaningful pathways into rural healthcare.
By investing in future professionals like Chelsea, we’re also investing in the future of our community—ensuring access to high-quality care for years to come.
Before she wrapped up her placement, we caught up with Chelsea to hear what she had to say about her time at Thrive 👇
Q: What made you decide to do an Allied Health Certificate?
I'm really interested in people—and it aligns with my values of wanting to help others have the best quality of life possible, without dealing with the gory side of medicine!
Q: If someone was thinking of doing their Allied Health Certificate, what would you tell them?
Go for it—I highly recommend it. It's a great way to explore a wide variety of professions and can really help you figure out which area of allied health suits you. It opens your eyes to disciplines you might not have known about or fully understood before.
Q: What area of allied health first piqued your interest?
OT—because my sister studied it, and that definitely influenced me. I’ve also had family friends who work in the field. I love how diverse OT is and the range of things OTs can do to help individuals.
Q: Since being at Thrive, is OT still where you want to go?
Yes, but I’ve also really enjoyed learning more about Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology.
Q: What have you enjoyed most about your time in Broken Hill?
The people! Everyone’s been so welcoming, and there’s a really strong community vibe. It’s been such a nice atmosphere to be part of.
Q: What would you tell someone who was coming to do their placement at Thrive?
You’re going to love it! It’s such a great working and learning environment. There are so many opportunities to grow, and you get to work with a fabulous team of people whose knowledge and care are extensive.
Q: Do you think you’ll be back?
Yeah—hopefully for a uni placement in a couple of years!
