Maari Ma Health

Maari Ma Health Maari Ma Health is an Aboriginal community controlled health organisation dedicated to improving the

Maari Ma is led and governed by an all Aboriginal Board of Directors, democratically elected to represent 7 communities in our region: Broken Hill, Ivanhoe, Balranald, Menindee, Wilcannia, Wentworth Shires and Tibooburra from the unincorporated area. The board is deeply committed to providing a holistic approach to Aboriginal health that includes physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural and environmental dimensions. We deliver services to the whole community both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, and work closely with mainstream agencies to provide access to a broad range of services. Since our incorporation Maari Ma has built strong local strategic partnerships with the Far West Local Health District, Sydney University Department of Rural Health and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Maari Ma also strives to build partnerships with our communities as their participation in the planning and implementation of health programs is essential not only to quality health care but also to the integration of public health programs in our communities.

Can weather impact your health? Yes it can! Allergic reactions occur when your immune system reacts to an allergen—anything your body identifies as “foreign.” Allergy symptoms can be similar to symptoms from other conditions, such as the common cold. These symptoms are often worse if you also have asthma. Allergy symptoms can include: 👃🏽Runny nose, Stuffy nose, 👀Itchy eyes, Watery eyes, 👋🏽Itchy skin, 🤧Sneezing 😷Coughing 🛏 Fatigue, Wheezing, Dry, scaly skin.
While you can’t prevent allergies or control the weather, you can take steps to help manage your symptoms. Whenever possible, avoid exposure to your allergens. Check your local news for daily pollen counts, and schedule outdoor activities when levels are lower. Monitor the weather to keep track of triggers, such as rain or wind. Weather-related allergy symptoms can often be managed with over-the-counter medications, such as antihistamines, decongestants, nose sprays, and creams. Or talk to your favourite health worker at Maari Ma.

💡If you've seen our lights on later than you'd normally expect recently its because we've been doing extra clinics after hours, helping families to catch up on those health appointment they struggle to get to during school and work hours. Sound like something that would suit you and your family? 🩺Talk to your favourite health worker and flag if an after hours clinic would better suit your needs; we'll see what we can do.
