Often I see the first approach people take to dealing with bloating or their gut issues is to focus solely on dietary factors and eliminating foods/food groups. Which totally makes sense! However, I’d argue that it’s as important to recognise the impact that non-dietary influences can play on our gut health. The ones mentioned in this post include a couple of examples ⬆️

So next time you experience bloat or gut symptoms, remember that symptoms may arise from various factors beyond diet alone. Have you been wearing tight clothes all day? Have you drank enough water or maybe you’re going through an extra stressful period at work…

Take the time to have a considered approach before looking at cutting certain foods from your diet. If we cut out foods/food groups, over time this can affect our relationship with food, result in following a more restrictive diet and can actually negatively impact gut health in the long term.

Can you relate?

I wanted to jump on your feed and say a HUGE thank you for all of your support of my business this year!

2023 was a massive year with ups and downs & I’m just sitting here reflecting on it all & feeling incredibly grateful for all of the support I’ve received. Every post you’ve read, recipe you’ve made or time you’ve mentioned my business to someone you know, it has helped to build Your Gut Feeling 🫶 & I can’t thank you enough.

I can’t wait for 2024 - thinking about all of the incredible people I get to continue working with, all of the new people I get to meet & help, & all of the challenges I know I’ll face when growing a small business - bring it on 💪 🚀

Wishing you a happy & healthy 2024 🌏

Big love

Let’s chat about one of those quotes that hits you right in the motivation feels: “If you want something to CHANGE, YOU have to do something different.” 💪

Okay, let me take you on a little journey into my teenage years, where I was an athlete and also navigating the murky waters of diet culture 🙅‍♀️

Long story short, I started restricting my food while keeping up the intense training. Guess what happened? Constant hunger, low energy, and difficulty concentrating. And you know what else? My running performance hit a plateau, and eventually, I had to bid farewell to the sport I loved.

Fast forward to my Uni years, where I learnt about damaging effects of undernourishment. Lightbulb moment: If I wanted change, I needed a different game plan. So, I started to pivot my mindset around food and exercise to one of abundance and not restriction.

Here’s the golden 🔑 nugget: If you’re expecting a different outcome from the same routine (enter fad diets, gut-symptoms, or an unhealthy relationship with food etc.), it’s like repeatedly planting the same seeds and hoping for different flowers to bloom 💐.

The magic ⚡️happens when YOU embrace change by doing things differently, having a game plan, & staying consistent.

Ok that’s my pep talk for today 😆

If you want to see positive change to your health, and you feel like we’d be a good fit, my DMs are always open or you can complete the application form on my website 🫶

In the the sea 🌊 of nutrition information 📚 , it’s easy to get swept away by myths and misconceptions. In this post I’ve included some of the most common nutritional misconceptions I see in clinic! I’ll make sure to share a gut/health version soon.

Remember, navigating the world 🌎 of nutrition can be challenging, and individual needs vary. When in doubt, consulting with dietitian 💚 can provide personalised guidance based on your unique health goals and requirements.

Brain 🧠 boost 💪 smoothie 🥤 would you believe this deliciousness has cauliflower in it? Recipe 👇🏼

You will need:

1 x tbsp Cacao powder, or cocoa if you don’t have cacao
1 tsp cacao nibs
1 x frozen Banana
A handful of frozen cauliflower or broccoli
1 Tsp Chia seeds
1 x scoop protein powder
1-2 x dates
Small handful of Hazels nuts or 1 tbsp hazelnut meal
Cup of milk

Why is it a “brain boost smoothie”?

✔️Cacao Powder and Cacao Nibs: Cacao is rich in flavonoids, which have antioxidant properties. Antioxidants help combat oxidative stress and inflammation, which can be beneficial for brain health.
✔️Frozen Cauliflower or Broccoli: These vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli contain compounds that may have neuroprotective effects, potentially supporting brain health.
✔️Chia Seeds: Chia seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for brain health. They also provide fiber, helping with satiety and stable energy release.
✔️Protein Powder: Protein is important for the development and repair of tissues, including brain tissue. It also helps with satiety and can contribute to a balanced and sustained energy level
✔️Milk: Milk is a good source of calcium, vitamin D, and protein. Vitamin D plays a role in cognitive function.

Overall, this smoothie includes a mix of carbohydrates for quick energy, protein for sustained energy and tissue repair, healthy fats for brain health, and a variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that can support overall well-being, including brain function. The combination of these nutrients in a single smoothie may contribute to sustained energy levels and cognitive function, hence the term “brain boost.”

Todays reminder 🫶

This week in clinic, I couldn’t help but notice a common thread that kept surfacing - the power of small, consistent actions.

It’s not about giant leaps; it’s about those daily steps that may seem insignificant but, trust me, they’re the building blocks of lasting change.

Without sounding overly cliché, I’ve witnessed firsthand how these little, consistent changes can snowball into some pretty amazing outcomes. So, keep at it because you’re making progress one step at a time.
