Sydney’s oldest cemeteries….

The Devonshire Street Cemetery (opened 1820) was Sydney’s first major burial ground, but it was moved in 1901 to make way for Central Station. Many remains were relocated to Rookwood Cemetery — headstones can still be found there marked “Removed from Devonshire Street.”

St John’s Cemetery, Parramatta (1790) is Australia’s oldest surviving European cemetery, dating back to the early convict period.
