The Willow Clinic - Vanessa Fisher Osteopath

The Willow Clinic - Vanessa Fisher Osteopath The Willow Clinic offers structural and cranial osteopathic treatment to patients of all ages. This in turn will help to alleviate the symptoms.

Osteopathy is a long established and widely recognised system of diagnosis and treatment. It examines the structure and function of the body and how the parts of the body (bones, joints, ligaments, discs, muscles, tendons and nerves) work together. A breakdown of the body's normal working patterns can result in unnecessary stress, strain and pain. An osteopath assesses each patient's individual, n

ormal, mechanical, working pattern and by gentle manipulation of bones, joints and soft tissues, works to remove restrictions which may be preventing normal mobility, blood flow, nerve supply and muscle activity. Vanessa Fisher trained and qualified as an osteopath from the British School of Osteopathy, the UK's oldest school of Osteopathy, where she went on to lecture. At The Willow Clinic we offer specialist treatment for a variety of conditions including back and neck pain, slipped discs, sciatica and nerve irritation, work/repetitive strain injuries, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, sports injuries, headaches, postural changes and back pain during pregnancy and problems in children. Vanessa offer's general osteopathic treatment for adults and specialises in the treatment of pregnant women and babies. Vanessa is experienced in cranial and paediatric osteopathy, helping to relieve a wide-range of problems in babies and young children and assisting many women during and after pregnancy, helping their bodies as they undergo changes to accommodate for the growing foetus and then through the early days and weeks of motherhood and beyond.

International Self-Care Day is a timely reminder that taking small steps each day can build a strong foundation for your health 24/7.

One great way to support your body at home is stretching with the help of a theraband. Here's why theraband stretching might assist in promoting flexibility and muscle balance:

- May reduce postural tension from desk work
- Might help to encourage mobility and circulation
- Could support recovery alongside osteopathic care
- Lightweight, easy to use and perfect for home routines!
Osteopathy could play a role in maintaining musculoskeletal health, and combining it with consistent stretching at home may enhance your wellbeing journey.

Did you know chronic pain costs the Australian economy over $139 billion a year? But its emotional cost is even higher.

➡️ 1 in 5 Australians live with chronic pain
➡️ Pain impacts more women than men
➡️ It's the leading cause of early retirement due to ill health

As osteopaths we believe every voice matters, and so does every option for support. Osteopathy may help support those living with chronic pain by:

🌀 Encouraging better mobility
🌀 Supporting improved posture and joint function
🌀 Possibly easing muscular tension

If you're living with pain, or caring for someone who is you're not alone. Reach out if you would to book a chat or learn more about osteopathy this Pain Week.

Could Your Baby Benefit from Osteopathic Support?

I often work alongside Lactation Consultants like Peta of Beach Baby to support breastfeeding families holistically.

One of the most common reasons babies are referred to me is when they seem to prefer feeding on one side. This might indicate something like torticollis where your baby’s neck feels a little “stuck”.

Here are some signs parents or lactation consultants might notice:
🔹 Baby only turns their head one way
🔹 Feeds more comfortably on one breast
🔹 Latch is inconsistent despite position changes-
🔹 There’s a history of a difficult birth, C-section, or assisted delivery
🔹 Tongue tie diagnosis or feeding discomfort

Osteopathic treatment may help support the musculoskeletal system, allowing your baby more freedom of movement and potentially a more comfortable feeding experience. We take a gentle, collaborative approach, working closely with your lactation consultant to build a plan that suits your baby’s individual needs.

Love golf but your swing leaves you sore?

Golf might look low-impact, but the body tells a different story, especially after a full day on the course!

Here are a few common golf-related injuries we often see:
🔹 Golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis)
🔹 Lower back strain
🔹 Shoulder tightness or impingement
🔹 Wrist discomfort or reduced grip strength

Whether you're hitting the driving range or teeing off regularly, these issues can sneak up over time.

💆‍♂️ Osteopathic care may assist by:
• Supporting mobility in the spine and shoulders
• Addressing muscular imbalances that contribute to strain
• Helping improve posture and swing mechanics
• Supporting recovery from repetitive stress injuries

Every golfer’s body is different - that’s why tailored care matters!

Pulled a muscle while running? Let’s talk hamstrings & calves!

Hamstring or calf tears are some of the most common injuries in both casual and professional athletes. But how do you know it’s more than just a cramp?

✅ Signs you may have a muscle tear:
• Sudden sharp pain
• Swelling or bruising
• Difficulty walking or putting weight on the leg
• A "popping" sound at the time of injury

🌿 How osteopathy may assist:
• May help reduce muscle tension and swelling
• May support natural healing through improved circulation
• May assist in regaining mobility and flexibility

Remember, early support and management may lead to better recovery outcomes.

💚 I work with people every day to help them move better and feel stronger, but for those living with Mitochondrial Disease even having enough energy to get through the day can be a massive struggle.

That’s why next month I'm taking on fundraiser The Bloody Long Walk - a 35km challenge to raise awareness and much-needed funds for mito research and support.

Every step I take is for those who face a much tougher daily journey.
If you'd like to support this cause, please consider donating - every little bit truly helps - see link: https://event.bloodylongwalk.com.au/fundraisers/VanessaFisher/sydney-north .

Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) can make even simple tasks like brushing your hair or reaching into a cupboard very painful and feel impossible.

👉 It often affects people aged 40–60
👉 It may take 1–3 years to resolve
👉 Risk factors include diabetes, thyroid issues, or post-surgical immobility

Osteopathic care may help to ease pain and encourage mobility through gentle hands-on techniques like the Spencer method. Early intervention could be beneficial in supporting recovery and restoring shoulder function over time.

Learn about the 3 stages of frozen shoulder and how osteopathy might support each phase by reading my recent blog post below! https://www.thewillowclinic.com.au/frozen-shoulder/

Frozen shoulder, also called adhesive capsulitis, is a painful and stiff condition that affects the shoulder joint.

🎾 Sports Injury Awareness: Let's Talk About Tennis Elbow!

Have you been feeling a nagging pain on the outside of your elbow, especially after lifting, gripping, or even typing? You might be dealing with Tennis Elbow - and no, you don’t have to be a tennis player to get it!

This is one of the most common overuse injuries we see, especially in active adults or anyone who does repetitive arm motions.

🧠 Osteopathic treatment may assist with:
- Reducing local inflammation and discomfort
- Improving joint mobility and circulation
- Supporting muscle balance and recovery
- Promoting overall body alignment for better healing

If your elbow pain is limiting your everyday activities, it's worth exploring your options - Osteopathy may be one of them.

Getting the most out of your session is key to longer-lasting results. Here are some post-treatment FAQs we get all the time:

✅ DOs After Your Treatment:
- Stay well-hydrated to support your body’s recovery
- Take it easy for 24–48 hours
- Gentle walks are fine
- Follow any aftercare advice from your osteopath

❌ What to Avoid:
- Heavy lifting or strenuous workouts
- Intense stretching or high-impact exercise
- Alcohol or anything that may dehydrate the body

💡 Why?
Your body may still be adjusting. Gentle movement allows the nervous system and muscles time to respond to the session.

Got questions about exercise that's ok to do after your session? Contact me!

If you're pregnant and find that getting out of the car causes pelvic or hip pain, there’s usually a good reason.

During pregnancy, your body is adapting fast, and this can lead to:
- Pelvic girdle discomfort
- Pressure on the SI joints or p***c symphysis
- Muscular tightness or imbalances in the hips
- Less core stability due to hormonal changes

Getting out of a low seat (like a car) puts your pelvis in a tricky position. Osteopathy may assist in promoting pelvic alignment, easing muscular strain, and supporting mobility - especially around the lower back and hips.
