We are saddened by the loss of Dr Katie Allen, who has been a long-time champion for people living with allergic disease. Over many years, Katie has been involved in the development and implementation of the National Allergy Strategy and in her political role, supported the Parliamentary Inquiry into Allergies and Anaphylaxis which led to the establishment of the National Allergy Council (a partnership between Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia & Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy) and the National Allergy Centre of Excellence.

We send our heartfelt condolences to her family and all who were fortunate to have known her.

The National Allergy Council team wishes you all a safe and happy holiday season!🎄☀️

Do you work in children’s education and care? Do you know how to manage drinks for children with food allergy? 🤔

Children should be supervised when drinking, so that they only drink from their own cup or water bottle to prevent contamination from germs and food allergens.

✅ Water bottles should be clearly labelled with the child’s name.
✅ If children’s water bottles are stored on a trolley, bottles belonging to children with food allergies should be kept in a separate location.
✅ When serving water in cups, give children with food allergies different coloured cups labelled with their name.
✅ When pouring milk drinks, serve the children with milk allergy first to make sure the right milk is given to the right child. Use a different coloured cup to the rest of the children, clearly labelled with the child’s name.
