🎄Day 2 of my 12 Days of Christmas:
Recipes for Happy Hormones, Digestion + Moods ⚡️

It is absolutely CRITICAL right now to prioritise an evening wind down ritual. When the days are go-go-go, your evenings are your moment to nourish your body, soften your breathe and steady your nerves… to reset for tomorrow.

🧘🏼‍♀️ So here’s a little evening ritual to bring you back into your body after a crazy day of extreme sports (aka Xmas shopping in December and party after party):

My Vanilla Spice Moon Milk, soothes the nervous system, stabilises blood sugar, and helps keep your cortisol levels steady.

Recipe:
• 1 cup coconut or almond milk
• ¼ tsp vanilla essence
• 1/2 tsp cardamom
• Pinch cinnamon
• Optional: coconut water ice cubes to pour over (or enjoy warm)
• Optional: ½ tsp honey (just try it first - these spices are sweet and you may not need any!)

👉🏽 Warm gently, sip slowly, unclench your jaw and soften your shoulders.

‼️ This “wired but tired” pattern is a common signal that your HPA axis (the stress-hormone communication loop between your brain and adrenal glands) is struggling. And if you’re in midlife, this system becomes especially delicate!

🌸 As progesterone begins to drop and estrogen becomes erratic, your nervous system loses some of its natural buffering. Essential minerals such as potassium, sodium, magnesium and copper are used up faster (and often burnt out to some degree), sleep becomes less restful, and your adrenals have to work harder to keep your energy steady.

🌚 This is where we often see the circadian rhythm flip….with cortisol flatlining in the morning (when it’s supposed to be spiking to wake us up and get us moving), and then peaking in the evening instead of softening to allow for restorative zzzzzz.

If your HPA axis is dysregulated (also called Adrenal Fatigue), you may feel:
• heavy, slow or foggy in the AM
• wired, restless, panicky or overstimulated at night
• emotional, fatigued but running on “edge” energy
• highly reactive nervous system, lowered resilience to stressors (fight and flight)
