Living Hands- a deep perception of feeling through touch.
I have been massaging since 1992 when I started my studies in bodywork and healing therapies. I was living at a beautiful place called the Health and Healing Centre in Broome and working as the gardener. All sorts of wonderful therapists would visit offering their healing services and teachings and I made the most of their tools and studied everything, from Reiki and Polarity Healing to Guided Spiritual Healing, Rebirthing, Toning, Dynamic Meditation, Chi Gong and Yoga, everything that was on offer. Around the same time, I also engaged in more formal training of Tradition Thai massage, Shiatsu, Swedish, Deep Tissue massage, Reflexology, Aromatherapy.
In 1994 I gave up the garden and began to work full time as a massage therapist at the Relaxation Centre, Cable Beach Club and really developed some skills and stamina treating up to 6 clients a day. It was here I was introduced to Myofascial Release and studied with the Adelaide Health Therapy Centre to learn the basics. We also had couple of float tanks (sensory deprivation) and the effect on clients was amazing especially if they floated before their massage. I would float as often as possible too and discovered very deep levels of meditation.
By 1995 I established Living Hands and after a brief stint as a mobile service, set up a home clinic where I still work from. The garden is well established now and I love being able to work from home where I’ve created a temple of peace and serenity.
I was a massage lecturer at the Kimberley College of TAFE between 1995- 1996 teaching introduction to massage. It was very rewarding to offer guidance and to watch the confidence grow as students learned about themselves and how to touch others. I’m very interested to pass on my experience to the genuine seekers of body therapy.
With a super busy practice, it wasn’t until 2012 that I had time to attend more training. I traveled to Beijing, China with Massage Australia and as a small group, we observed doctors in the Guan An Amen Hospital treating patients with massage, cupping and acupuncture as a general treatment within the hospital. We attended afternoon lectures with the doctors and learned and practiced the basic techniques of Tui Na. We also had an oppoprtuniy to practise cupping on the patients and this inspired me to study Traditional and Modern Cupping with Bruce Bentley in 2013. Bruce also taught us Facial Rejuvenation Cupping using specialised bell cups.
In 2013 I traveled to Chang Mai, Thailand and attended a course in Chi Nei Tsang (abdominal massage)
I offer a truly unique experience of massage that is a fusion of styles and techniques developed over 25 years of practise wth the ability to treat you as an individual to encourage harmony and balance on all levels.
My Yoga journey began when I was 18 and those first instructions I heard attending an Iyengar beginners course remained etched in my memory and body. I grew up in the south west of Western Australia and played a lot of sport. During that 10 weeks introduction to yoga I discovered a lot about my body and the effects of yoga on my mind and emotions that have been the tools that enable me to live a more peaceful life.
I moved to Broome in 1992 and began studying and working as a massage therapist. Practicing yoga became an integral part of my own health and wellbeing and it was a natural progression for me to deepen my yoga and in 2011 I attended a 200hr teacher training with The School of Sacred Arts in Bali with the foundation styles of Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga.
I began teaching regular classes in Broome 2011 teaching Slow Flow Hatha, Yin Yoga and developed a 5 elements Yin Yoga course.
I continued my yoga teacher training journey in 2014 partaking in a 95hr certificate of Yoga for Children and Teenagers with Beta Lisboa at SWAHA Yoga at the Green School in Bali.
I was so inspired by Beta Lisboa that I traveled to Greece to attend 100hr Yin Facial Yoga module and then 2 more 100hr modules in Bali to complete a 300hr certificate
In 2017 I registered with Yoga Alliance as a 500RYT
I am currently teaching 2 weekly classes of Yin Yoga at the Flow Movement Space, 20 Hunter st, Broome. And Slow Flow Hatha at the Loft Studio , Broome
I am also available for private teaching either on the lovely garden deck or at a space of your choice.
Yin Yoga. Designed to calm the nervous system and revitalize the tissues in the body. Yin is a slow practice of long held passive poses aimed to work the deeper aspects of the joints and fascial networks. Through stillness and surrender we develop presence, patience and mindfulness. A gentle style, suitable for all levels of experience.
Yin Yoga- Roll and Release. Sometimes referred to as yoga tune- up, we use balls, blocks and props to access the soft tissue in a self massage and then let the energy flow into the connective tissue though passive yin postures.
5 Elements Yin Yoga. We are not only made up of the 5 Elements internally (in our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies), we are also surrounded, supported and merged with nature in its outside expression, on this Earth. The 5 Elements in nature and in people are always striving for the Spirit’s (God’s) balance. In this experiential session we use Chi Gong, Meditation, Breath work and Yin Yoga, to explore the physical and emotional indicators of each element and bring awareness and harmony to our body mind connection.
Slow Flow Yoga. A progressive sequence of gentle flowing movement to restore flexibility and develop strength. Focusing on alignment and connecting with the breath we go Back to Basics as to tune up and tune in to create space for the breath and quietness for the mind.
Yoga Nidra. A guided meditation to experience one of the deepest possible states of relaxation while still remaining fully conscious. Sleeping Yoga, a state of consciousness between sleeping and waking.
