Lower back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints worldwide. However, pain is not always a sign that your body is damaged — often, it’s your body’s way of asking for support and protection.

Your lower back is made up of joints, muscles, discs, ligaments, and nerves that work together to support movement, stability, and communication between the brain and body. When the brain detects stress, irritation, inflammation, reduced movement, or potential threat within these tissues, it may create pain as a protective response. This is why lower back pain can sometimes develop gradually, even without a specific injury.

Ongoing pain, along with factors such as prolonged sitting, stress, repetitive strain, poor sleep, and previous injuries, can all influence how sensitive the nervous system becomes and how strongly it responds over time.

The good news is that chiropractic care may help reduce pain and tension, support healthy spinal movement, and improve communication between the brain and body. Regular gentle movement and stress management also play an important role in recovery and long-term spinal health.

Neck pain is more than just discomfort — it can influence how your entire body functions.

Your neck contains specialised joints, muscles, and nerves that constantly send information to the brain about posture, movement, and balance. When the neck becomes stiff or restricted, this communication may become less efficient.

As a result, strain through the neck may contribute to:
• headaches
• muscle tension
• reduced movement
• dizziness or balance changes
• fatigue and concentration difficulties

Modern lifestyles, including prolonged desk work, phone use, poor posture and stress, can all place increased strain on the neck over time.

Research suggests chiropractic care may help support healthy neck movement, improve spinal function, and reduce pain and tension by supporting communication between the brain and body.

Inflammation and pain are often talked about together—but they’re not actually the same thing. Inflammation is part of your body’s natural healing process. When something becomes injured or irritated, your body sends in its own version of a clean-up crew. This can create swelling, heat, redness, tenderness, and sometimes pain as the body works to protect and repair the area.

Pain, on the other hand, is created by the brain as a protective signal. While inflammation can contribute to pain, you can have inflammation without pain, and pain without significant inflammation.

Did you know there are also different types of inflammation:
🟢 Acute inflammation is short-term and helpful. It’s the body’s normal response to injury or stress and plays an important role in healing.

🔴 Chronic inflammation happens when the body stays in a heightened state of alert for too long. Over time, this ongoing inflammatory response may begin to affect energy levels, sleep, mood, recovery, and overall wellbeing.

That’s why it’s important to look beyond just the symptoms and explore what may be driving the inflammation in the first place.

Most people assume pain comes directly from the part of the body that hurts. But modern pain science shows us something more complex: pain is created by the brain.
That doesn’t mean pain is imaginary—it’s very real. It simply means your brain is constantly interpreting information from your body and deciding when it needs to protect you.

Your body contains millions of sensory receptors that detect movement, pressure, temperature, and inflammation. This information is constantly sent through the nervous system to the brain so it can understand what’s happening both inside and outside the body.

One of the brain’s most important jobs is keeping you safe. When it senses potential danger or stress, it may create pain as a protective response. In many ways, pain acts like the body’s alarm system. Sometimes this alarm is helpful, like when you touch something hot or injure yourself. But stress, poor movement patterns, inflammation, lack of sleep, previous injuries, and emotional stress can all increase the sensitivity of the nervous system, causing the alarm system to become overprotective.

That’s why pain doesn’t always equal damage. Some people experience significant pain without major injury, while others may have tissue damage with little or no pain. Research also shows that when pain persists for long periods, the nervous system can become sensitised, meaning the brain becomes more efficient at producing pain signals over time.

Your nervous system also has two major modes that influence pain and healing: the sympathetic (“fight or flight”) system and the parasympathetic (“rest, digest and heal”) system. Chronic stress and chronic pain can keep the body stuck in a prolonged fight-or-flight state, increasing muscle tension and pain sensitivity.

Research suggests chiropractic care helps to support healthy communication between the brain and body by improving spinal movement and nervous system function.

Pain is not your body working against you—it’s your body trying to protect you. Understanding pain helps us move beyond simply chasing symptoms and toward supporting better nervous system health and overall function.

🧠 Pain isn’t where you think it is…
Most people assume pain comes directly from the part of the body that hurts. But the reality is a little more complex—and a lot more interesting.

Pain is actually created by your brain.

Your brain is constantly receiving information from your body and interpreting what it means. It’s always asking one key question: “Am I safe?” When something feels off—whether it’s physical tension, stress, or even past experiences—your brain can respond by producing pain as a way to protect you.

That’s why pain doesn’t always equal damage, and why sometimes people can have real discomfort without a clear injury… or an injury without any pain at all. Pain isn’t “just in your head,” but your brain plays a powerful role in how you experience it. So what does this mean for healing?

It means we need to look beyond just the sore spot. Supporting your body isn’t only about chasing symptoms—it’s about helping your nervous system feel safe, balanced, and able to function at its best.

✨ Chiropractic care focuses on improving communication between your brain and body. When that connection is working well, your body can adapt, move, and heal more effectively. When your brain feels safe, your body can start to let go of protection… and that’s where real change begins.

If you’re navigating long days and sleepless nights with a baby who just won’t settle, please know you’re not alone 🤍

Colic affects up to 1 in 3 babies and can be incredibly overwhelming for families. While the exact cause of colic remains unclear, a baby’s nervous system plays an important role in how they digest, sleep, and settle. When there’s tension or restriction—particularly through the spine—it can interfere with these processes, sometimes making feeding, digestion, and calming more difficult and uncomfortable for your baby.
Research suggests that chiropractic care may help reduce excessive crying in some infants, with studies showing an average reduction of around 2 hours per day within 10 days. Our approach is gentle, safe, and tailored to your baby, focusing on supporting their nervous system and overall function to help them feel more settled and at ease.

If you’re struggling with a colicky baby, we’re here to support both you and your little one. Get in touch with our team to learn more:

Breastfeeding doesn’t always come easily—and if you’re finding it challenging, please know you’re not alone. While most mums begin breastfeeding, many face hurdles along the way, whether it’s discomfort, latching difficulties, or feeding challenges.

Feeding relies on your baby’s ability to coordinate the jaw, neck, and spine. When there’s tension or restriction in these areas, it can make latching and feeding feel harder than it should.

This is where chiropractic care may offer support. Chiropractors assess how your baby is moving and functioning, particularly through the spine and nervous system. Using gentle, low-force techniques, care is tailored to help reduce tension and support better mobility—especially in the neck and jaw—so feeding can feel more comfortable and effective for both you and your baby.
