You’re not alone — and it’s not your fault.

As Psychologists, we see many young people who silently battle with disordered eating. It often doesn’t look like what the media portrays. You might be:

🔸 Constantly thinking about food, calories, or your body
🔸 Swinging between restricting and bingeing
🔸 Feeling guilt or shame after eating
🔸 Avoiding meals with others
🔸 Using food to cope with stress, anxiety, or feeling “not enough”

These patterns aren't about willpower or vanity. They’re often ways of trying to manage emotional pain, trauma, perfectionism, or a deep sense of disconnection.

Disordered eating is not always visible. And it’s never just about food.

If you're feeling alone, it’s important to know:

There are evidence-based treatments that work — including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), CFT-E, and trauma-informed approaches.
You deserve support — no matter your weight, diagnosis, or how long you've been struggling.
Talking to a professional can help you understand what’s driving these behaviours and begin to build a healthier relationship with food and yourself.

You don’t have to wait until things get worse to reach out. Early support makes a difference — and recovery is possible.

If you're looking for a safe space to talk, ask questions, or learn more about what therapy might look like, feel free to connect. Kimberley Strachan-Regan adopts a warm, empathetic and client-centred approach for individuals struggling with disordered eating.

Contact OMH now to find out how you can book with Kimberley and overcome the isolation you may be experiencing living with disordered eating.

Living with long-term depression can feel isolating.
You may find yourself disconnected from others, struggling to form meaningful relationships, or experiencing ongoing interpersonal conflict. If this sounds familiar, you're not alone—and there is support.

A Process Group offers a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts and emotions in connection with others. Led by two experienced Psychologists, these groups help individuals better understand themselves in relationships, build emotional awareness, and develop healthier ways of relating.

Healing doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens in connection.

If you're ready to feel understood, supported, and more connected—this may be the next step in your journey.

Distress is an unavoidable part of being human. Recently for many in our area there was a re-traumatising experience with the arrival of ex-cyclone Alfred. Northern NSW and SE QLD having previously suffered from severe flooding in 2022 and the disruption that followed for many years. Even though each persons experience is different there can be a number of common responses that are experienced after a major weather event. Here are some of the normal reactions to trauma.

Emotional:

*shock, fear, anger, sadness, shame

Physical:

*sleep difficulties, physical problems such as headaches, exhaustion, nausea, palpitations, easily startled by noises.

Thinking:

* frequent thoughts or images of the incident, thoughts or images of past frightening events, flashback, feeling os "reliving" events, picture os what happened jumping into your head

* dreams

*confusion, difficulty making decisions.

Behaviour:

*socially withdrawing from others, easily irritated by others, feelings of detachment, loss of interest in normal activities

*work - struggles with concentration and focus, poor motivation.

*coping mechanisms - increased use of alcohol, ci******es or other drugs.

*loss of appetite or increased eating

📞 If you have noticed some of these symptoms, don't struggle alone and reach out to One Mind Health for support after this critical event.

OMH is currently reading this. A great practical, accessible addition to the neurodivergent literature with an emphasis on self-compassion. As a neurodivergent person you are more likely to be judged, corrected and criticized with higher levels of shame, lower self worth, higher self criticism as a consequence. Introducing compassion means having a sensitivity to suffering in ourselves and others, with a commitment to alleviate and prevent this suffering (Gilbert, 2009). We can learn to approach ourselves with greater empathy, non-judgement, greater understanding and care. This can improve overall well-being and quality of life. Take a look at this book and if you feel you need to have someone alongside on this journey of introducing self-compassion into your world reach out to us at OMH.
