Conscious dance can develop our physical and emotional intelligence, mindfulness, and soulfulness. Each time we move with awareness, we can change from habit, to greater personal choice and creative possibility.
When we dance fully embodied, moving and including what is here, we step into the wonderful ride of being alive – more present to anything and everything!
Feel more connected and open to possibility.
Francis facilitates in meeting you where you’re at, in gently taking you on a journey of ‘showing up’ in your own (beautifully) imperfect, messy, and free dance.
For the past eight years, Francis has embraced the freedom and home he found in 5Rhythms and Open Floor. Running Home Body conscious dance this year, he intends to pursue the Open Floor teacher-training path when it reopens.
Francis loves a diverse range of music and wishes to share the fun, freedom, and aliveness of conscious dance with others.
Conscious dance classes are proudly supported by Summer Healing Yoga.
How can it complement my yoga practice?
You may find a conscious dance class to be less structured, with greater space for you to express yourself creatively in movement. Expanding your usual ‘groove’ and range, you may be invited to explore movement in solitude, partnership, or as a group.
Similar to yoga, you may find conscious dance to be grounding. Through breath and movement you may feel expansive, more open, present and compassionate.
Why I love conscious dance
For me, the space between ‘dance’ and ‘meditation’ is conscious dance.
When I discovered moving meditation eight years ago on a 5Rhythms dance floor, it was a powerful and unmistakably clear homecoming.
I finally ‘met’ my own body.
Having an academic background, I realised that while the wisdom and creativity in my head is necessary for the world we live in, there was a whole world of intuition and knowing in the rest of my body I was missing out on! And it was calling me.
I just had to listen (and breathe).
Dance is for everyone; it’s not just for nightclubs, bars, parties, festivals, or as a profession. Ancient peoples have known dance as ritual; and in conscious dance, we too can explore our key relationships – to self, other, community and spirit.
It really has opened up a new way of being, knowing and learning.
“We don’t learn to dance, we dance in order to learn.”
