Should we always just treat the tight spots?
It may feel tight...but it may not be connected with your pain.
Not all tight muscles are 'bad' and need to have the tightness 'rubbed out' of them. Sometimes a muscle is tight but isn't driving your pain experience.

Happy new year! 🎉
First day back in the clinic for the year, and it's got me thinking... 🤔
As I settle back into my work routine, there's a definite mix of emotions - excitement for the new beginnings, but also a hint of relief that 2025 is finally behind us. It was certainly nice to see the end of 2025, while I don't want to call it 'the worst year ever', it brought lots of challenges, lessons, and loss personally. From the tough days to the moments of growth, it was a year that tested my resilience and forced me to evaluate my priorities.
So with that said, hello 2026! 🎊 It's nice to see you, and I'm eager to see what you have in store. 🤞 (definitely not going out hard and claiming 2026 as 'my year'... let's just all play it cool & calm, don't jinx anything)
Reflecting on the year that was also leads me to feel so much gratitude for what I do have. I'm so pleased that I can continue to work as a practitioner and do the thing that I love doing - helping people, making a difference, and being a part of their journey. It's a privilege that I don't take lightly, and I look forward with excitement to continuing to grow, learn, and do this work in the years to come. 💫

A day in the life of a Myotherapist 👀

When your manual therapist asks why your shoulder hurts…
and you hit them with “Well, it started somewhere between the handstand and the split."
Pole dancers, aerialists, gymnasts — I see you (and I’ve got your back… and shoulders 😉).
A therapist who understands your movement, so you don’t have to explain it in slow-mo. 🙌
📍 Book with a therapist who gets it.

🚫 You don’t need to go all-out every session.
✅ What you do need? To show up — again and again.
Real results come from small daily choices.
Your body thanks you for every step you take toward better health. 💚
Consistency > Intensity. Every time.

Struggling with exercise confidence? You’re not alone.
💬 Truth is, doing something is always better than doing nothing.
Whether your form is perfect or not, showing up is what counts. 🙌
🔁 Reminder from your Myotherapist: The only 'bad' exercise is the one you didn’t do. 💪
If you ever want to check your form or get some reassurance on your technique just ask your myotherapist at your next appointment. Exercise prescription is a key part of Myotherapy treatment.

Wellness is expensive — time, money, energy.
Yes, it’s getting harder (and costlier) to prioritise your health:
💰 Exercise classes, self-care sessions, supplements, fresh food…
⏳ And then there’s the time - meal prepping, walking, squeezing in a gym session.
All of this on top of juggling work, family, relationships, home life, hobbies — and just trying to keep up with your favourite podcast. 😅
So why spend all this extra time, energy, and money?
Because illness costs more.
Not just financially - with doctors, specialists, tests, medications, and time off work -
But in ways that matter even more:
✨ Your energy — both physical and mental
✨ Your joy and daily pleasure
✨ Time with the people and things you love most
So yes — the cost of health is high.
But it’s a cost that gives back.
Choose movement. Choose support. Choose you.
Because not all costs are counted in dollars. 💚

Is the world testing your patience? This is your cue to hit the Reformer - not the person 😅
Pilates: a stress outlet that won’t get you arrested… and yes, your core will thank you too. 💪
When life feels overwhelming and the last thing you want is a group HIIT class with a drill sergeant, or a yoga instructor chanting mantras while you're silently screaming inside—
✨ Come get on the Reformer.
We’ll help you move through the tension with calm, connection, and a practitioner who actually gets you.

Melbourne Performance Therapy provides dedicated, specialist musuculo-skeletal care for performance artists and every body! I am passionate about the health and wellbeing of performers and recognise the unique needs of performers and the challenges that they face in maintaining their health. Melbourne Performance Therapy is committed to promoting a culture of lifelong preventative healthcare in performers; a performer should not have to ‘suffer for their art’. I understand that a performer’s artistry is intricately linked to their health and wellbeing. Through holistic preventative and maintenance care I aim to support and enhance both the performer and their craft.
Melbourne Performance Therapy provides musculoskeletal treatment to all performing artists including:
Instrumentalists and vocalists
Dancers: ballet, contemporary, musical theatre
Actors: stage, television and film
Circus and physical theatre performers
Not a performer? No worries! I treat people from all walks of life not just those who choose to dance/sing/cartwheel their way through life.
Erin Baker is a qualified Musculo-skeletal therapist (Myotherapist) with a Bachelor of Health Science and prostgraduate certificate in Clinical Rehabilitation. A musician and dancer herself, Erin has a long standing passion for the performing arts. Upon completion of her degree in 2012 Erin was immediately drawn to blending two of her passions; healthcare and the performing arts; to establish her clinical myotherapy practice.
Situated in Brunswick, Melbourne Performance Therapy welcomes all performers young and old, and also welcomes appointments from those not directly involved involved in the arts, but simply share a love and passion for them.
