🌸What to eat during your menstrual cycle. 🌸

There are 4 key phases of the menstrual cycle. When considering dietary choices during each menstrual phase according to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), it's essential to understand the principles of balance and harmony within the body.

The menstrual phases are listed below; however, the dates are just a guideline as everyone’s cycle is different.

🌸Menstrual Phase (Days 1-5)
🌸Follicular Phase (Days 6-13)
🌸Ovulation Phase (Days 14-15)
🌸Luteal Phase (Days 16-28)

Hopefully these images can be a handy guide.
Otherwise, book an appointment and we can discuss what works best for you.

🍂 Feeling it with the season change?🍂

Lower energy. Tighter muscles. The first sniffles of the year. Your body is adjusting and acupuncture is a great way to support it through the shift.

This time of year I help a lot of people with:

🌿 Immunity — build resilience before the bugs hit
🌿 Muscle tension — especially neck, shoulders and upper back
🌿 Energy — when you're feeling flat and run down
🌿 Sleep & stress — as routines change with the cooler months
🌿 Sinus & respiratory — seasonal allergies getting worse

Acupuncture works best as prevention, not just treatment. A couple of sessions now can make a real difference to how you feel all the way through winter.

🌸Natural Fertility Acupuncture 🌸

Are you on a fertility journey? You're not alone and acupuncture might be able to help more than you think.

For thousands of years, Chinese Medicine has supported women through preconception care and fertility challenges. Here's what it can do:

🌿 Regulate hormones and support a healthy menstrual cycle
🌿 Balance the HPO axis to encourage regular ovulation
🌿 Reduce stress (which has a surprisingly big impact on fertility)
🌿 Improve blood flow to the reproductive organs
🌿 Support your overall emotional and physical wellbeing

Stress alone can disrupt ovulation and throw your cycle off balance. Acupuncture works gently to calm the nervous system, nourish the body, and create the best possible environment for conception.

It works best alongside a healthy lifestyle and good care from your medical team and as a part of that picture, it can make a real difference.

If you'd like to know more about how acupuncture could support your fertility journey, I'd love to chat.

🌸Pelvic Pain Relief 🌸

Pelvic pain is something I see often in clinic.
For some, it’s occasional discomfort. For others, it’s something that impacts daily life. Conditions like endometriosis, adenomyosis, and polycystic o***y syndrome are common contributors, but pelvic pain doesn’t always come with a clear diagnosis and that can be incredibly frustrating.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), pelvic pain is often understood as a disruption in the smooth flow of Qi (energy) and Blood through the lower abdomen. There are a few common patterns I look for:

🌸Qi stagnation – often linked to stress, presenting as tight, cramping pain
🌸Blood stasis – more fixed, sharp pain, often worse around menstruation
🌸Cold in the uterus – improves with warmth, often with a dull or aching quality
🌸Dampness or Damp-Heat – a feeling of heaviness, swelling, or inflammation

Everyone presents differently, which is why treatment is always tailored to you.

If you’re struggling with pelvic pain, you’re not alone and there are options to help you feel more comfortable, more supported, and more in control of your health.

Cupping is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) technique.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been used for thousands of years as a powerful treatment for both mental and physical ailments.

Cupping is a technique using small glass cups with heat inside them as suction devices to disperse and breakdown stagnation & congestion. This is done by drawing congested blood or energy to the surface of the skin.

Cupping is beneficial for encouraging blood flow may be used for:

🌸Relieving neck & back pains

🌸Fatigue
🌸Cold and flu symptoms

✨ What is Moxibustion? ✨

I often use moxibustion (or “moxa”) alongside acupuncture to gently warm and nourish the body.

Moxa involves burning a herb called Artemisia vulgaris (mugwort) near specific acupuncture points to stimulate circulation, strengthen Qi, and dispel cold.

It’s especially helpful for:
🌿 Period pain
🌿 Digestive issues
🌿 Fatigue
🌿 Cold hands and feet
🌿 Supporting fertility and breech presentation

The warmth is soothing and deeply restorative, like a heat treatment from the inside out.

Curious if moxa is right for you? Let's discuss it in your next appointment.

🌸Back to Basics🌸

What is Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) have been used for thousands of years as a powerful treatment for gynaecological and obstetric conditions. Acupuncture is a natural, drug-free and effective way to restore balance in all parts of the physical, mental and emotions body. It works on many different levels by releasing endorphins as well as regulating hormonal function.

Acupuncture is grounded in traditional Chinese medicine developed over 3000 years ago. The treatments are blended with modern medical knowledge and incorporate diet advice, tuina Chinese massage techniques, gua sha, cupping, moxibustion, and prescribed Chinese herbal formulas.

🌿Endometriosis Support all year round! 🌿

Tomorrow is the end of Endometriosis Awareness month, but Endometriosis doesn’t work on a calendar. While Endometriosis Awareness Month helps bring much-needed attention to this condition, the reality is that many people are managing symptoms every single day of the year.

Pain, fatigue, digestive issues, hormonal imbalance and inflammation don’t stop when the awareness campaigns do, and neither does the support.

Through Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, treatment can focus on:
✨ Reducing pain and inflammation
✨ Supporting hormonal balance
✨ Improving circulation to the pelvis
✨ Helping regulate cycles and support overall wellbeing

If Endometriosis is part of your story, please know you don’t have to wait for March to seek support. I’m here all year round.
