Did you know?

Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) – It is hypothesised that oxidative stress (an imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants in the body, which can lead to cell and tissue damage) may play a role in RPL with excessive oxidative stress signalling the initiation of inflammatory processes which induces apoptosis (death of placental cells) of placental tissue.

Daily N-acetylcysteine (NAC) administration – from detection of pregnancy up to 20 weeks of gestation – in combination with folic acid, has been demonstrated to result in a significantly higher live birth rate and significantly higher pregnancy continuation up to 20 weeks compared with folic acid alone.

We’re back out of lockdown - YAAAY!
Have you found out you’re pregnant and need a dating scan ASAP!?! We have appointments available this week, just get a referral from your GP and book an appointment. Don’t forget that all diagnostic Dating Pregnancy Scans are bulk billed so you won't pay a cent out of pocket!

A dating scan (also known as a viability scan), is the first scan you have during pregnancy and is an ultrasound examination to establish or confirm the gestational age of a pregnancy.

With information such as the date of your last period and/or your pregnancy hormone blood levels along with the information obtained with the ultrasound scan, we aim to be able to:
• Confirm a pregnancy
• Confirm a normal pregnancy location (in the uterus) after six weeks
• Confirm viability by the presence of fetal heartbeat and gestational sac size to determine gestational age
• Calculate the expected date of delivery
• Determine the number of babies present (single, twins etc)
• If twins, can determine if they are sharing a placenta or in same gestational sac
• Look for a cause of bleeding in early pregnancy and confirm viability
• Detect any uterine and/or ovarian issues, for example a uterine fibroid that may affect the pregnancy

Dating scans can also be useful to accurately confirm gestation in all early pregnancies and is especially helpful in patients:
• where the LMP (last menstrual period) or conception date is not known
• who have an irregular menstrual cycle
• with an unusual cycle due to breast-feeding, recent miscarriage or stopping the oral contraceptive pill
• any bleeding in the pregnancy causing confusion with dates

Dating scans are usually performed between 6 and 10 weeks gestation. A referral is required for all diagnostic medical ultrasounds and we can arrange a referral from our midwife if you require. We are able to accept referrals to any other companies.

WE REMAIN OPEN FOR MEDICAL DIAGNOSTIC SCANS ONLY- these are essential Obstetric and Gynaecological scans!

ALL 3D PREGNANCY SCANS ARE CANCELLED for the duration of lockdown! We have contacted the COVID hotline and they have confirmed that non diagnostic baby scans CANNOT be done during the lockdown as they are not considered essential and increase unnecessary risk to the pregnant mumma and unborn baby.

We apologise considerably to any ladies who have had to miss out this week, and will endeavour to book you back in as soon as we can!

We take very seriously, and adhere strictly to the COVID-19 guidelines and want to ensure you that your safety, your babies safety or the safety of our greater community are always our first priority!! We ALL have a responsibility to do the right thing... We are all in this together 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩

From 4pm today 11 South-East Queensland local government areas will enter a hard lockdown until 4pm on Tuesday August 3.

Please don't leave your home except for the below reasons, and if you are sick, stay home and get tested.
