We are embarking on a very strange and unsettling time in our lives. There is so much being written, shared and talked about. I wanted to contribute some back to basic ideas to support our self care.

Continue exercising, whether inside, a walk with your dog, a ride on your bike, obviously following guidelines to keep ourselves and others safe.

Reach out to others via phone, text, online. Ideas of having a skype get togethers/ parties, the whole street sitting out on their driveway or balconies to feel more connected with each other even though we cannot be 'physically' with each other.

If all members of your family are well in your household, hug, hold hands, pat pets and receive safe physical touch.

Play games, craft, puzzles with your family.

Play sport/ garden in the back yard.

Put restrictions on watching the news and social media.

Share your feelings, whether anxious, hopeful, scared.

Chat as a family about what are and could be some positive outcomes of this pandemic.

Be honest and open with children, share your own feelings with them. Some excellent picture books about anxiety and worry that may help are 'My big bag of worries' and Birds have anxiety too'. 'The Invisible String' is a very timely book at the moment too, a visual and symbolic reminder that even though we may not be together we are all connected through our strings or love with each other and to remember to pull on them when we need that reminder of love from each other.

Most importantly monitor yourself and if you are not coping and need extra support reach out to a friend or family, lifeline or professional. I am available for skype or phone sessions and if finances are an issue I can offer discounted rates.
