If you’re working with women in peri or post-menopause, it’s time to level up your conversations. Here’s why:

šŸ¤” Not asking about menopause symptoms or hormones?
You’re potentially missing a huge piece of the puzzle. These things affect energy, recovery, motivation—and your client’s ability to show up. Learn how to ask in a way that feels normal, not nosy.

🫣Avoiding the pelvic floor chat?
It might feel awkward, but it’s essential. You can’t safely program high-impact training or heavy lifting without knowing what’s going on down there. Asking doesn’t have to be clinical—it can be part of a normal intake convo.

šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøDon’t ask what you’re not ready to work with.
If your pre-screening form asks about joint pain or flexibility, make sure you actually know what to do with that info. Otherwise, it’s just noise.

šŸ’¬ I was chatting to a THRIVE course grad recently about the importance of understanding joint range of motion—like hamstring flexibility—to better progress clients, prevent injury, and actually solve problems.

Celebrating 24 years of being a massage therapist.

Some people that know me now, have no idea that I have spent the last 24 years as a sport & remedial & myofascial massage therapist.

What a fabulous career I have had being a therapist and what I a lot I have learnt-about the human body, the human mind, and the power of massage therapy.

I’ve had the honour of being part of the Australian medical team at Commonwealth and Olympic Games, World Championships, and International regatta’s all across the globe. I have worked in sports medicine clinics, physio clinics, hospitals, studio’s, spa’s, make shift outdoor rig ups and everything in between and sometimes with my baby in tow!

People come to massage for a number of reasons- whether it’s a high performance athlete, or an elderly client, pregnant client or your ā€˜average’ Joe blog.

Nearly all carry some sort of ā€˜stress’-physical or mental and look to the power of hands on therapy to help them feel better, perform stronger or recover easier.

Stress can sabotage the best laid training plans, diets and exercise programs if not addressed properly, and this need to manage stress amplifies for women in the menopause years.

This is why I have created the Stress Less in menopause retreat and myofascial workshop as understanding the impact that stress has on the physical body and mind is CRUCIAL for success in the gym and on the training field.

Learning how to unwind the myofascial system can provide enormous relief for menopausal joint pain, and I will be teaching fitness professionals how to integrate these types on stretches into the gym and studio settings.

Using my 24 years experience as a sport, remedial and myofascial therapist, I have created simple tools, tricks and protocols to help you- and your clients manage stress better and I’m so excited to share this at the retreat and workshop.

It’s a cheeky way of saying someone’s a bit lost — especially when it comes to the basics.

In the fitness world, that can be anatomy. And let’s be honest, many PTs and instructors finish their training still feeling a bit fuzzy on what’s actually happening with muscles and joints.

If you’ve ever second-guessed where a muscle starts, ends, or what it even does…you’re not alone.

2 things that must go together to build lean muscle, strengthen bones, manage weight and reduce circulating inflammation in menopause

1. Heavy weights (no more 2kg dumbbells!)
2. Having protein within an hour after your weights session
Fit pro’s- you might know this for yourself, but can you explain exactly WHY this is crucial for your female 35+ fitness clients?

Your clients don’t know what you know, so you need to help them understand that their body is different now heading into peri and post menopause, and therefore how you train and what you need to eat changes also.

If you can’t clearly explain the nuances of menopause in a way to your clients that they fully understand, they will keep repeating the same habits and you will potentially lose your client as they won’t get results.
