As summer quickly approaches and with much of Queensland starting to receive heatwave warnings, it's important to know how to prepare. For older people this is particularly important as extremely hot weather can create unique health challenges.

During these months, it's important to stay cool by:
🚰 Staying hydrated and drinking 6 - 8 glasses of water a day at regular intervals
🏠 Finding ways to keep your home cool including closing window coverings when there is direct sunlight
🏃‍♂️ Keeping activity to a minimum during the hottest part of the day (11am - 3pm)

At 94½, Maureen Mayall continues to prove that creativity has no age limit. A resident of Buderim Views, Maureen brings colour and inspiration to her days with her love of painting.

A lifelong artist, Maureen found renewed purpose in her art after a tragic car accident that took her husband’s life and left her injured. Instead of giving up, she chose to keep painting, saying, “I’m not going to let this accident get me down. I’ve got to carry on painting so that I can enjoy what life I’ve got left.”

Now living at Buderim Views on the Sunshine Coast, Maureen has more time and inspiration than ever. Her artwork reflects her bright spirit; from vivid memories of her travels to dreamlike scenes and humorous moments born from her imagination.

Maureen hopes her paintings bring joy and a smile to others, proving that it’s never too late to live with passion, purpose, and creativity. ❤️🎨

Monday, 24 September 1945 – 80 years ago today – Queensland Governor Sir Leslie Orme Wilson officially opened the Kenmore Repatriation Sanatorium on the site of what is now Bolton Clarke Fairview, Pinjarra Hills. The first 12 veteran patients had been in residence in August under the watchful eyes of medical superintendent Dr George Cherry and Matron Viola Everett from the 112 Australian General Base Hospital. The sanatorium was founded to support ex-service personnel suffering from tuberculosis and continued to serve the veteran community until its closure in 1994.
