Night Shift Health Protocol 🌙

For my whole life I watched my old man do night shift so I understand the health implications it can have on the body long term fighting against your natural circadian rhythm.

I also did night shift when I was an electrician and I know the effects personally.

The protocol focus on optimising our pre, during and post shift routines through optimising our light environment, when to eat, macro splits for different times of the day/night, energy boosting routines, wind down routines plus much more.

I recommend this to any of my clients who are travelling (especially to places like Bali and Thailand where risk of contaminated water and food Bourne illness is much higher).

Fasting may be doing more harm than good.

If you scroll through instagram or TikTok you’ll be told that fasting is going to change your life forever, and whilst there is benefit in different fasting periods, if you’re chronically stressed and under eating 1000+ calories every single day for 6 months, you will not be feeling good.

Yes there is some magic in fasts when approached correctly, but when there are clear signs your body is falling apart from underfueling, it’s best to bring your breakfast back in.

For anyone that is under high stress, I personally believe that breakfast is an extremely important part of your morning and setting you up for the day.

Too often I see men jumping from specialist to specialist, doctor to doctor, all with differing opinions, protocols and recommendations.

Our bodies evolved an inbuilt survival mechanism called the sympathetic nervous system, or the fight or flight response, designed for short bursts of escape from danger, such as rescuing family or tribe members.

However, our nervous system struggles to distinguish between fleeing a tiger and feeling anxious about an email you need to send to your boss. This can trigger similar bodily responses.

Ideally, we’d spend most of our time in rest and digest mode and reserve the fight or flight response for when it’s truly needed. However, it seems this balance has shifted and we spend most of our time stressed out of our minds and never truely feel calm.

Excessive fight or flight can significantly impact healing and quality of life.

Men hate when I tell them this.

Most men don’t want to be told their body is showing signs it’s under chronic stress.

We are extremely adaptable and these levels of stress just become our new norm.

But just because it is your new norm, doesn’t mean it’s not affecting you.

Chronic stress is almost like a padlock to working on other areas of the body.

If you’re stuck in fight or flight 24/7, good luck healing.

Setting aside some time daily to regulate, work in, and rebuild energy is one of the best bang for buck parts of any protocol.

Doesn’t cost anything to sit still and take a few deep breathes and the upside is massive!

37 year old stroke victim.

This one definitely rattled me.

My new client is only 37 years old, looks healthier than most guys his age.

He recently suffered from an ischemic stroke.

It’s been a wake up call to realise we never really truly know what could be going on under the skin.

He is fit, healthy, has a 6 pack, and still suffering from cardiovascular disease.

CVD is one of the biggest killers in men, and this has proven to me that it really can impact anybody, no matter what shape or size we are.

Don’t put your health off til it’s too late.

Are you correctly preparing for your blood tests?

I’ve seen some crazy results over the last few years simply from not correctly preparing for blood tests.

The biggest drivers of skewed test results I usually see are workouts right before a test, either pre/during/post having a virus/illness, big night on the drink a few days prior and fasting for hours too long.
