🦠 Everyone is concerned about using hand sanitizer to help prevent the spread of COVID-19
🦠 Unfortunately the shops are either out of stock or running low
🦠 Don’t get me wrong when out and about without access to washing hands. Hand sanitizer is great.
🦠 Once you arrive home from being out. Remember hand hygiene and wash your hands.
🦠 When performed correctly, hand hygiene results in a reduction of microorganisms on hands. Poor hand hygiene contributes to the spread of pathogens, which can cause health issues.

Extending your baby's nap time Does this sound familiar? Your baby wakes up in the morning after a solid night’s sleep. You feed her, change her, play with her, take her for a little walk outside. You then rock her to sleep and put her gently into her cot for the morning nap. 30 minutes

Naps are important too

Skipping naps and late bedtime will affect your child's next 24-hours. Don't believe anyone who tells you that naps are not important or skipping naps will help your baby sleep longer at night. That’s a myth!

What is more likely to happen is that your child will end up overtired which will cause longer settling to sleep, more crying and nighttime waking. Not to mention earlier mornings.

It’s important that naps are developmentally appropriate – so if you have a question about the best age appropriate nap schedule for your little one, ask me below; be sure to include your child's age and current nap schedule.

Is it just me or is everything feeling a little bit sombre right now?

I want to give you a few updates about what The Heart of Sleep is doing in light of the COVID-19 new developments today.

✨All scheduled in-home consultations will be canceled and replaced with virtual consultations. I want to take social distancing seriously to keep your families safe, protect our vulnerable populations, and “flatten the curve.”
✨The Heart is Sleep is a 70% virtual business and will continue to operate as normal. All Zoom, FaceTime, phone and email communication with current clients will still happen just as frequently as before.
✨ There are a lot of rules around self-isolating and social distancing likely meaning you will be spending more time at home and less time being busy. This could be just what your family needs to slow down and start practicing healthy sleep habits, without the usual distractions of the outside world. Better sleep boosts immunity and health.

Change requires effort, effort requires energy. In an exhausted state we may find it much easier just to keep things as they are rather than try something different. Plans, ideas, change seems like too much effort. But with plans and ideas light is at the end of the tunnel. After working together with my gentle techniques, your baby will have better sleep habits and sleeping through the night. Commit for a few weeks to reap the benefits OR consider the alternative of dealing with night wakings for years to come. If you are ready to move out of that dark tunnel and see the light, ready to commit to change, then get in touch for your FREE 15 minutes discovery call

A lot can happen in 14 days and it’s great to set yourself goals during this time. Miss 7 months was born premature, her corrected age 6months when she began her personalised sleep plan. She wore a brace 23 hours a day to support her hips, due to hip dysplasia. The brace only needed to be worn another 5 weeks! Mum and Dad were certainly counting down and wanted to make changes to her sleeping habits during this time. I’m proud to say that we achieved all our goals and even more.

We made some changes to her bedtime routine to accommodate time off without the brace on!! Mum wanted to breastfeed once overnight instead of 2-3 times as she was currently doing. Introduction of a naptime routine helped cue that it was time to sleep.

During this time Miss 7 months proved that she was now ready for 2 naps instead of 3 during the day and transitioned beautifully.

Her nap length Increased to 1.5 hours each nap, happy to say no longer a cat napper

Dropped to 1 breastfeed overnight but by day 9, slept all night, without a feed. 🙏🏼

Parents were champions with this and were very consistent. It was great to have our regular calls, to chat and tweak the plan to suit Miss 7 month’s changing needs.

Hi I’m Melanie, Certified Sleep Sense Consultant, Paediatric Nurse and Midwife. I'm excited to be following my passion and helping families get the sleep they so deserve. I work with families one on one offering gentle respectful solutions. Helping your baby or child create healthy sleep habits to fall asleep and stay asleep.
I know first-hand what it feels like to struggle with sleep. Short naps, early rising, night wakings, sleep associations... you name it - I've been there too. It can be hard for all the family

The good news is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Sleep isn't a luxury (it’s a must) or something that you have to forfeit as a parent. Sleep can and will get better with a little knowledge, guidance and support.

If you would like to know more about me or need some guidance around sleep. Let's chat, so you can sleep better tomorrow!

Throwback Thursday

How many wakes do you put up with each night? More than one!? Let's chat it, especially if baby is over 6 months. It really doesn't have to be like that. Sleep Training does NOT mean Cry It Out! Questions?? Please don’t make assumptions.

Here is what one Mum had to say after working with me online & Skype (2-week plan) as they were interstate. How good is technology!

“Melanie was fantastic in helping our baby sleep through the night. We went from waking every 1-2 hours to sleeping right through. I highly recommend her services, she is ever so kind, helpful and supportive and great at what she does!!”

Thank you Aimee! How wonderful to see such a dramatic change n 2 weeks.

Babies need to learn to fall asleep on their own without any external props, such as rocking, feeding and dummy. If your child depends on a prop to fall asleep then they will find it difficult to get back to sleep without their prop each time they wake up during the night.

Most parents know this but struggle with how to remove the prop. Let me guide you and give you the tools and knowledge you need. Contact me for a free 15 minute evaluation discovery call.
