Since leaving Victoria almost 2 years ago it has taken some time to ground here.
For those who have been walking beside me for the past few years, know that folllowing bioregional
rhythms + moon seasons is something that I incorporate into my work & walk.
On Woiwurrung Country, I knew the land + seasonal shifts well. Bird observation, nature mapping
& regular sitting by the redgums, deepened the way I viewed the world.

This time of year, around Melbourne/Naarm, the Gang Gang Cockatoos and King Parrots make their
return, their arrival marking the swing of seasons.
Here on Kaurna Country, on the Adelaide Plains, birds and the landscape are very different.
It has taken me a full sun cycle to build a relationship here.
And so… The Spotted Harriers & Barn Owls have been a consistent presence in my life & show
up to cultivate belonging, patience & to open doorways into the Spirit World.

On multiple occasions, the Barn Owl has shown up in rather mythical ways & encounters with
Spotted Harriers have been reminders of the art of patience & the importance of turning inward to
listen to the deep song which is intrinsically woven with the threads of the natural world.
Teaching others about Bioregional observation & bird connection is something that I have
treasured over the years, & it fills me with an aliveness which I have not felt for sometime.

Spotted Harriers and Owls actually have a few commonalities, which I have only just learnt.

Soon the gourds will be ready for harvest and the soil will be bare, ready for the winter crops.

I have spent a lot of time on this chair, watching vines grow
&
Bees tending to the nocturnal blooms.

My initial intention was to craft medicine rattles with the gourds, but they are absolutely HUGE, so Birdhouses they will become..
Anyone else ever experienced gourd crafting before?
I know it's quite a process, but I'm all in!

I've been lighting a candle every night since Dad crossed over.
Offering fragrant smoke of ancestral herbs daily. Usually on sunrise and sunset, one smouldering stem in each direction.

The in-between worlds.
A place of re-pivoting, yet being rooted in stillness and silence.
::
Waiting for my dreaming to hear the voice of Dad.
My medicine tools lay idle.
Also waiting for me to return to them.
::
I'm reflecting on my time spent with Dad.
The last few weeks a priveledge to help a Soul transition.

As the nights grow colder and the dawn darker, I find a comfort and peace knowing that I did all I could to be present & dedicated.

💚 ANCESTRAL THREADS 💚

I remember a dream I had sometime after Baka passed into the Spirit World.
She came to me, sat opposite me, in silence and held the backs of her hands up.
She then took her hands off like a pair of gloves and gave them over to me.
::
That dream, was a medicine dream.
A direct revelation from the veils of transition.
::
I knew that she was literally handing me her knowledge, to keep the flame burning.
To hold the ancestral stories for the generations to come.
::
I find myself through these days, reflecting about my relationship with my dad.
::
The way we bond is through gardening.
Through the tending of the soil & harvesting our abundant gifts of nourishment.
::
Ancestral work isn't about dressing up for social media such as I have done here, it surpasses the irrelevance of it all.
It's humbling
Unravelling
Gritty
&
Simple
But it's also
Grieving old stories
Tending to Memories
So that they can nourish the seeds of time.
Trying to grip onto tender moments, knowing that they too will have their cycle.

Dad has enjoyed telling me how to make peach jam while he lays in his hospital bed.
And I
harvest the tomatoes in hope that he returns to complain about my gourds taking over.

There are moments of pause I am giving breath to, in-between walking this sacred threshold.
Sitting with the withering of time.
The bloom becoming the seed.

Cacao leading the way.
One sip at a time.
Although cacao is not a medicine of my lineage, she has called to me to be a steward and to share stories of ancestral bonesong & belonging.
Through the teachings of and Marita, One Who Catches Lighting, I have been facilitating Cacao Circles within the community.
::
Gathering around offerings of home-grown corn, gourds, rose and river stones.
These are times of challenge for many.
And so...Cacao leads the way..
We stay in our cups to anchor us in the breath of presence, love and a deeper sense of unity.

I've been refining many of my blends over the years, not changing them dramatically, but crafting them in a way that softens their notes.
This calls for adjusting ratios, parts of the plants which are used and various other methods which comes with experience.
