Tendon pathologies

Tendons are an important part of the contractile soft tissue complex and attach muscle to bone. Tendons work primarily as ‘bracers’ and will usually get overloaded if deconditioned and exposed to repetitive loads e.g. running, jumping, acceleration and deceleration.

Common types of Tendinopathies
• Achilles Tendinitis
• Tennis Elbow
• Golfer’s Elbow
• Patella Tendinitis
• Rotator Cuff Tendinosis
• Gluteal Tendinopathy

Tendons once flared, can typically take 3 months to recover and require a specific strength loading program which can be prescribed by your physiotherapist.

Strengthening tendons increased collagen tissue production which can assist in the recovery of tendons, while also increasing the tendons threshold for load.

Book today if you require assistance in managing your tendon pain!

Rotator Cuff Injuries

Rotator cuff injuries are very common and occur in approximately 50% of adults over 50. These can be either with or without symptoms, but even asymptomatic cases may lead to issues in the future.

Case Study

A 44yo tradie with ongoing right shoulder pain had his strength tested with a dynamometer on assessment.

L=19.9kg, R=9.3kg
A strength deficit of 53% on the affected side.

3 months later after following a physiotherapy guided rotator cuff strengthening program

L=20.8kg, R=20.1kg
A deficit of 3% which is in the normal range.

There was a marked reduction in pain and an increase in function. After 3 months he reported his shoulder was close to 100% once he had addressed his rotator cuff strength impairment.

Book in today for an assessment and commence your journey to getting on top of your shoulder pain.

Lower Back Pain

The management of lower back pain needs to be individualised for each patient.

Flexion vs Extension
Stiffness vs Instability
Weak vs Poor Motor Patterns
Pathology vs Function

An assessment with an experienced physio will assist you in identifying the impairments specific to your back pain. Addressing these can be the key to improving your lower back pain and set you up for a better quality of life for the future.

Remember, there’s not a ‘one shoe fits all’ approach to back pain.

Book in today for a complete assessment and treatment by one of our experienced physiotherapists to get you back on track.
