How Kinesiology supports anxiety, sleep and ADHD

I regularly get asked if kinesiology can help with things like anxiety, sleep issues or ADHD - especially from women I work with, some of whom have been diagnosed late in life.

The answer is:
Kinesiology does not replace medical care but it can beautifully support the nervous system and brain function alongside it.

Your brain works best when four key foundations are supported:

🧠 Low stress load
🌿 Good nutrition
💨 Oxygen
💛 Positive emotional environment

When stress is high, the brain produces more cortisol and adrenaline. Over time this can impact:

• Focus
• Emotional regulation
• Sleep cycles
• Neurotransmitter balance
• Memory
• Nervous system regulation

Some brain areas involved include:

🧠 Prefrontal cortex
Focus, planning, emotional regulation

🧠 Hippocampus
Memory and learning

🧠 Brainstem
Automatic survival responses and regulation

🧠 Pineal gland
Sleep cycles and melatonin production

🧠 Corpus callosum
Communication between left and right brain

Kinesiology may support by:

🌿 Reducing nervous system stress
🌿 Supporting emotional regulation
🌿 Helping calm overthinking
🌿 Supporting better sleep patterns
🌿 Improving mind-body communication
🌿 Supporting brain integration
🌿 Helping the body shift into repair mode

For sleep specifically we often work with:
• Stress hormones
• Nervous system regulation
• Emotional processing
• Overthinking patterns
• Circadian rhythm support

For anxiety:
• Fight/flight patterns
• Emotional stress release
• Nervous system calming
• Subconscious stress patterns

For ADHD support:
• Stress reduction
• Nervous system balance
• Supporting focus pathways
• Brain integration
• Emotional regulation support

A question I ask my clients:

Would your brain function better if it was less stressed?

The answer is always yes.

Kinesiology helps create a more supportive internal environment so the brain and body can function more optimally.

Because sometimes healing isn't about adding more…

It's about reducing what is overwhelming the system.

Gratitude for our Autumn Equinox Circle 🍂

Thank you to all the beautiful women who gathered for our Autumn Equinox Women’s Circle on Sunday, my heart is full of gratitude.

There is something so powerful about women gathering with intention. Slowing down together. Breathing together. Speaking honestly. Witnessing each other with such compassion and care.

At this sacred turning of the seasons, we reflected on what we have grown, what we are ready to release and what we are calling into our lives next.

Again I am reminded…
when we feel safe, something ancient awakens.
A softening.
A remembering.
A returning to the heart.

Thank you to every woman who showed up with such openness, courage and presence. Wisdom and compassion filled the room. The connections were so beautiful to witness.

This is why I do this work. Because healing doesn't just happen in sessions… it happens in community. It happens when we realise we are not alone. It happens when we allow ourselves to be seen exactly where we are.

As we continue moving through this Autumn season of letting go and returning inward, perhaps reflect...

What is one small thing you could gently release right now? What is one nourishing thing you could do for yourself this week to support your own heart?

Feel welcome to share below in the comments ✨️

If your heart is calling you to circle, our next Winter Solstice Women’s Circle & Cacao Ceremony is now open for bookings.

These gatherings are such a beautiful way to stay connected to yourself, to community and back to the natural rhythms of life through honouring the turning of the seasons.

You can book your place via my bookings page (link in bio or comments)

With love and gratitude,
Melinda 💛🙏

The Amygdala: Why you react before you think (and how kinesiology helps)

Have you ever reacted to something and later thought:

"Why did I respond like that?"

There is a small but powerful part of your brain involved in this called the amygdala.

The amygdala is part of the limbic system, the emotional and survival centre of the brain. Its job is simple:

Keep you safe.

It constantly scans for danger and activates survival emotions like:
• Fear
• Anger
• Panic
• Threat detection
• Fight / flight / freeze responses

For example:

If you see something dark on a bush track your body might instantly react thinking:

"Snake!"

Your heart rate rises.
Your muscles prepare.
Your nervous system activates.

Then your thinking brain (the prefrontal cortex) checks the information and realises:

"Ohhh… it's just a stick."

Your system settles again.

This is healthy brain function.

But when someone has experienced ongoing stress or trauma, the amygdala can become over-sensitive.

This can mean:
• Overreacting emotionally
• Feeling constantly on edge
• Anxiety
• Hyper-vigilance
• Difficulty relaxing
• Trouble sleeping
• Feeling stuck in survival mode

In kinesiology we work with the body and subconscious nervous system to help reduce stored stress patterns that keep this survival response switched on.

Through balancing techniques we may help:
• Calm emotional reactivity
• Reduce stored stress responses
• Support nervous system regulation
• Help shift from reaction into conscious response
• Create a greater sense of safety internally

When survival stress reduces, something beautiful happens.

People often say:
"I feel more like myself again."

Because instead of reacting from survival…
you begin relating to life from presence.

And this is where real healing begins.

Understanding Your Nervous System (and why stress affects everything)

Most people don’t realise just how much of their daily experience is shaped by their nervous system.

Your body actually has three main nervous systems working together:

🧠 Central nervous system
This is your brain and spinal cord - the command centre that processes information and makes decisions.

🌿 Peripheral nervous system
These are the nerves branching out from the spine that communicate with your muscles, organs and glands. This is how your brain talks to your body.

⚖️ Autonomic nervous system
This is your automatic survival system and has two main branches:

🔥 Sympathetic nervous system
Your fight, flight or freeze response
This is activated when you feel stressed, unsafe or overwhelmed.

🌿 Parasympathetic nervous system
Your rest, repair and digest state
This is where healing, hormone balance, digestion and deep sleep happen.

The challenge is many people today are living with their stress response permanently switched on.

This can look like:
• Feeling wired but tired
• Overthinking
• Anxiety
• Poor sleep
• Hormonal imbalance
• Digestive issues
• Muscle tension or pain

This is where kinesiology can help.

Through gentle muscle monitoring, we can identify where the nervous system is holding stress and help the body shift back toward balance.

Kinesiology may support by:
• Reducing stress load on the nervous system
• Helping shift from fight/flight into calm regulation
• Supporting emotional processing
• Improving mind-body communication
• Helping the body return to its natural healing state

When the nervous system feels safe again, the body can finally do what it is designed to do:

Heal.

Because healing doesn't happen in survival mode.
It happens when the body feels safe enough to soften.

If you feel called to this work please feel welcome to book in a free over the phone introductory consult. I would love to support you on your journey back to a more optimal state of ease, joy and balance.

And gently let go of what no longer nourishes your life.

Together we will share a beautiful morning of:

✨ Meditation & energetic medicine
✨ Mindfulness-based practices
✨ Personal reflection & heart sharing
✨ Sacred seasonal ritual

A space to reconnect with yourself,
with community and with the wisdom of nature.

What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology is a holistic, energetic healing modality which works by identifying blocks and stressors effecting us on the spiritual, mental, physical, emotional, energetic, biochemical and nutritional levels.

Kinesiology does not diagnose nor prescribe and it is not a substitute for medical intervention.

In a session we work to a goal to bring balance and long-lasting health to mind, body and spirit. Kinesiology acknowledges the innate intelligence of the individual and works with the person to reconnect them back to that. As awareness grows and the body-mind recognises compensated, imbalanced states we are naturally brought back into a state of harmony, ease and wellness. As a result, old patterns, self limiting beliefs and conditioning are able to be released, supporting transformation, empowerment and self-responsibility.

Every single balance is important. It is known our biography becomes our biology.
