Christmas is coming and Holistic Lifestyle Practice will be closed from Friday 19th Dec and re-opening on Tuesday 6th Jan 2026 at 6.45am - an early morning start (perfect for before work or school).

I have set an intention to focus on resting my nervous system after an extremely busy year and this includes getting into the garden, going to the beach, reading some books, listening to music and spending time with Luna.

There are only a few appointments left for 2025, so please reach out if you would like an appointment before the Christmas closure.

Sometimes we have to do hard things.

Not because we’ve done something wrong, but because life asks us to grow in ways we never planned for or expected.

Doing hard things might look like getting out of bed when your heart feels heavy,
Saying no when you want to please everyone,
Showing up for yourself when it feels easier to disappear,
Setting a boundary that works for you and not others.

If you’re doing something hard right now, please know —

You’re not alone
You’re not weak
You’re not failing

You’re human.
And you’re learning to honour your needs, one step at a time.

Even the smallest step forward matters and if you need support along the way, I’m here.

* Mental health clinicians seeking supervision*

As mental health clinicians, we’re trained to think critically, assess and intervene within clear frameworks of evidence and ethics — all of which are essential.

Yet, many of us have also been socialised to distant ourselves from our intuition.

We’re taught to privilege logic over felt experience.
To hold neutrality even when our bodies whisper otherwise.
To value what can be measured over what can only be sensed.

So how did we get so disconnected from our intuition?

Women are often more intuitive and here (400 - 600 years ago) is where things are thought to have shifted:

1. The coloniality matrix of power - control of economy, control of authority, control of gender and sexuality and control of knowledge and subjectivity. (emergence of patriarchy/certain religion)

2. The witch wound - hundreds and thousands of women (and some men) were accused of witchcraft, tortured and executed. Many of those were healers, midwives, herbalists or just lived outside societal norms. Over generations, the fear of persecution was internalised and it might show up today as imposter syndrome, fear of being "too much", hiding intuitive aspects of work or disconnection of bodies, cycles and nature.

3. Marginalism – was constructed over time - usually being male, European, higher cast, affluence, money = logical and reason. Females, indigenous, nature, animism, intuition = not logical.

4. Animism - everything is alive, interconnected and imbued with spirit — not just humans, but animals, plants, rivers, mountains, weather, ancestors and even the unseen = not logical therefore: bad. (even though many indigenous cultures have language for this).

For many of us in the helping professionals — counsellors, social workers, psychologists etc — this plays out as tension between embodied wisdom and clinical conditioning.

If this resonates for you:

I have individual clinical supervision vacancies available now
I have started a waitlist for group supervision for 2026 where we will be exploring intuition, somatic wisdom and embodied practice.

🌬️ Sometimes the simplest practices are the most powerful.

✨ Breathe in calm.
✨ Breathe out stress.

A reminder that slowing down, even for a few breaths, can shift your whole day. 💚

What do you need to breathe in today? And what can you let go of on the exhale?

When food struggles cause stress, anxiety, or affect growth and health, it could be early warning signs of eating disorders like Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

You don’t have to work this out on your own. We’re here to offer a supportive space and expert guidance to help you understand what’s happening early, before it becomes more serious.

Join Paediatric Dietitian Dr Lyza Norton for a FREE 15–20 minute one-on-one Q&A session. This is a chance to have your questions answered in a supportive, informal online chat about what you’re observing at home.

Grab a coffee, bring your concerns or questions, and Dr Norton will provide expert insights to help you understand what’s happening and figure out your next steps.

✨ Free Online Webinar for Mental Health Clinicians ✨

You are warmly welcomed to my upcoming free webinar:

“Integrating lifestyle medicine and ancestral wisdom: a fresh lens for mental health clinicians”

Over the past few years, I’ve been immersing myself in the emerging field of Lifestyle Medicine, exploring how the six pillars—nutrition, movement, restorative sleep, stress reduction, substance reduction (including tech) and social connection—can transform mental health outcomes.

Alongside this, I bring knowledge and lived practice in ancestral wisdom traditions, drawing on ways of knowing that honour story, ritual, land and connection.

This journey has led me to embark on my next step: beginning my Master of Lifestyle Medicine (HDR) research next year, focusing on integrating lifestyle and ancestral medicine and wisdom can contribute to the mental health space in Australia.

In this free webinar, I’ll share:

🌱 An introduction to lifestyle medicine in the mental health context
🌱 Conceptualising ancestral medicine and wisdom and how it can offer a deeper layer of meaning, belonging and healing
🌱Current research and research gaps
🌱 Practical reflections for clinicians to bring into their own work and lives (including scope of practice)

📅 Date: 19 September
🕖 Time: 07:00am (ASWT) (1 hour)
📍 Online via Zoom (please note the session will be recorded)
