Janelle returned recently from The American Academy of Optometry meeting in Boston, the largest optometry conference in the world.
She was one of eight thousand optometrists in attendance, intensively learning about areas as diverse as biologic medications in eyecare, the impact of sleep and breathing on eye disease, the effects of GLP-1 RA drugs (like Ozempic) on the eyes, studies linking visual decline and dementia risk, and new treatments for allergic eye disease. And so much more! It was great to connect with some of the best minds in the field.

From advanced diagnostic technology to evolving approaches in patient care, Janelle is so excited to bring these fresh perspectives back to EyesWest!

Fun Fact Friday - Have you ever wondered why visual acuity charts use specific letters?
You know the classic E, C, A, B, Z chart you concentrate on during your eye examination?

That’s called a Snellen chart, and it’s been around since 1862!
The letters aren’t random - they’re specifically chosen to measure visual acuity, with the largest letter 88x as big as the smallest!

The letters on the Snellen chart are chosen because they have equal “legibility”. This means that each letter is roughly the same difficulty to distinguish, ensuring the test is accurate.
