I love summer when I can finish work, and still catch the sun before 7pm. Every night walking along the beach helps clear my mind from the work day. This helps me reset for the following day.

For the first time since starting my business in March 2018, I have decided to increase my fees as of 1st January. I have resisted doing this because I truly believe in low-cost dispute resolution for all. The good news is that mediation is still the quickest and most cost-effective way to finalise your seperation.
I wish all my past clients a wonderful holiday period.

Doing something completely different and entirely out of my comfort zone this week. Learning survival techniques, fire fighting and safety systems for different industries. I have met a great bunch of women who have a range of diverse experiences that are truly inspiring.

GOD, THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! TAKE THE TIME TO READ IT ❤️
As someone who writes often, I naturally appreciate epic writing when I see it. About two years ago, I came across this written piece of art by John Roedel and it moved me deeply, so I had to share it with all of you! Not only are these words true theatre, they also act as sound advice ❤️

my brain and
heart divorced

a decade ago

over who was
to blame about
how big of a mess
I have become

eventually,
they couldn't be
in the same room
with each other

now my head and heart
share custody of me

I stay with my brain
during the week

and my heart
gets me on weekends

they never speak to one another

- instead, they give me
the same note to pass
to each other every week

and their notes they
send to one another always
says the same thing:

"This is all your fault"

on Sundays
my heart complains
about how my
head has let me down
in the past

and on Wednesday
my head lists all
of the times my
heart has screwed
things up for me
in the future

they blame each
other for the
state of my life

there's been a lot
of yelling - and crying

so,

lately, I've been
spending a lot of
time with my gut

who serves as my
unofficial therapist

most nights, I sneak out of the
window in my ribcage

and slide down my spine
and collapse on my
gut's plush leather chair
that's always open for me

~ and I just sit sit sit sit
until the sun comes up

last evening,
my gut asked me
if I was having a hard
time being caught
between my heart
and my head

I nodded

I said I didn't know
if I could live with
either of them anymore

"my heart is always sad about
something that happened yesterday
while my head is always worried
about something that may happen tomorrow,"
I lamented

my gut squeezed my hand

"I just can't live with
my mistakes of the past
or my anxiety about the future,"
I sighed

my gut smiled and said:

"in that case,
you should
go stay with your
lungs for a while,"

I was confused
- the look on my face gave it away

"if you are exhausted about
your heart's obsession with
the fixed past and your mind's focus
on the uncertain future

your lungs are the perfect place for you

there is no yesterday in your lungs
there is no tomorrow there either

there is only now
there is only inhale
there is only exhale
there is only this moment

there is only breath

and in that breath
you can rest while your
heart and head work
their relationship out."

this morning,
while my brain
was busy reading
tea leaves

and while my
heart was staring
at old photographs

I packed a little
bag and walked
to the door of
my lungs

before I could even knock
she opened the door
with a smile and as
a gust of air embraced me
she said

"what took you so long?"

Maintaining good habits is so important. To move my body daily, often looks like an hour or so of group fitness, cleaning and taking care of my home and doing some activity with the kids! I like to take time out to exercise as this helps me to be fully present with my clients.
I have bookings available next week, and looking forward to returning to help clients manage their matters appropriately.

As a result of talking with managers, staff and teams who were struggling with workplace culture and conflict, I developed this program last year to pull together useful resources for organisations.
I offer this program in a range of formats, and can come to your workplace for a diagnosis on the issues and a design of strategies to improve workplace and team function.

Maggie Dent has such kindness and care for children and supporting their growth into fine young adults. This course sounds fabulous!

**** TRIGGER WARNING. This story references domestic violence *****

One day I was stopped in the street by a tough-looking biker covered in tattoos, rings and chains. He had a thick grey beard and wore a black leather jacket. He asked if I remembered him and I replied that he must have grown much bigger
and hairier than when I taught him at school! He gave me his name and I
was able to instantly recall a small, quiet, unhappy-looking boy from a Year 8 English class 20 years earlier.

He explained that he had often slept in a park because of the alcohol and family violence in his home. My classroom was the only one he could attend where he wasn’t punished or made fun of because he did not have his files and pens. ‘You welcomed me just like every other student and for a time I felt my life was bearable. I learned what kindness was from you.’

He went on to tell me that even though he looked tough and mean he always tried to be thoughtful to others. He volunteered for the local Meals on Wheels and has always been known as a neighbourhood helper in his street. He had stopped me
because he had wanted to thank me and to let me know that I had been such a positive influence in his life at a really tough time.

When I drove home after this experience, my heart felt really impacted. I realised that boys can be really impacted by how others behave and treat them. It's the lighthouse effect and I talk about the impacts a lighthouse can have on a teen, in my book From Boys to Men.

My Perth Boys to Men event this month has already sold out, however, if you're in Canberra on 1 JUNE I'll be touring this event there as well. Tickets are selling fast... grab your seat here - https://www.maggiedent.com/events/from-boys-to-men-canberra/
