โœจ๐ŸŽฅ What is a Hand Therapist? ๐ŸŽฅโœจ

Hand Therapy practitioners are the unsung heroes behind recovery, strength, and movement in the hand and upper limb. We are qualified Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists who have completed advanced postgraduate training in upper-limb rehabilitation.

๐Ÿ’ช We work across Australia โ€“ in public hospitals, private practices, regional clinics, and rural towns.

๐Ÿฅ Weโ€™re trusted by surgeons, GPs, and other health professionals to deliver expert assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.

๐Ÿง  We use evidence-based care to help people of all ages recover from injury, manage pain, and regain function.

๐Ÿ‘‹ From sprained thumbs to complex nerve repairs, from arthritis to post-surgical care, weโ€™re with our patients every step of the way.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ We design and fabricate custom thermoplastic orthoses (splints), and prescribe tailored rehabilitation exercises to restore movement, strength, and independence.

๐ŸŽ“ We are proud members of the Australian Hand Therapy Association, committed to lifelong learning and excellence in care.
This week, we celebrate our profession, our patients, and the incredible impact of hand therapy. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Hand Therapy Week 2025
๐Ÿ“… June 2 โ€“ 8, 2025
๐ŸŽฏ Theme: Workplace Injuries

This Hand Therapy Week, weโ€™re bringing national attention to the vital role of hand therapists in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of workplace injuries to the upper limbs.

๐Ÿ”Ž Why it matters
Workplace injuries are a significant issue in Australia โ€” especially to the wrist, hand, and fingers.

๐Ÿ“Š Recent statistics reveal:
*The wrist and hand are the most common sites of work-related injury, accounting for 38% of all work-related hospitalisations.
*Fingers or thumbs are involved in 24% of these cases.

These injuries can have lasting impacts on an individualโ€™s quality of life and on the workforce at large.

๐Ÿ’ก Key takeaway
An early referral to a qualified Hand Therapist can make the difference between long-term disability and a full return to meaningful work and life. Hand Therapists are uniquely skilled in helping people recover from serious upper limb trauma โ€“ from fractures and tendon injuries to nerve damage and overuse conditions.

Tennis elbow (lateral tendinopathy) is a painful condition that we treat every day in the clinic. Interesting read from the AHTA.

Tennis elbow is a common condition. Despite its name, tennis elbow can affect individuals who don't play tennis, as it's often caused by repetitive motion and overuse of the forearm muscles and tendons.

Symptoms of tennis elbow include pain that worsens with gripping, lifting, or twisting motions involving the wrist and forearm, weakness, stiffness in the elbow joint, especially in the morning or after rest periods and tenderness when touching the affected area.

The treatment of tennis elbow aims to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and promote healing.

Consult with an expert: An Accredited Hand Therapist is a physiotherapist or occupational therapist with expertise in the finger, hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder.
