Today our physiotherapist, Mehalah, ran our first session of the Walk for Health Club - a club where people who have neglected their self-care (physically, mentally and emotionally), can reclaim time to look after and prioritise themselves each week. It's a social, light hearted and wholesome way to move your body and chose yourself for an hour in the rush of this everyday world.
Starting at the Big Swamp Car park, we wandered through the She Oak's and along the boardwalks Big Swamp has to offer. Several participants are keen bird watchers, so Big Swamp made for the perfect setting; spotting swallows, honey suckles and even a red tail cockatoo.
We walked for 35 minutes, but the time will range for 30 minutes to an hour depending on how everyone is feeling, and the weather (of course). Today was a stunning May Day, so we were able to appreciate a good dose of Vitimin D.
We finished the walk off with some gentle stretching to get our bodies feeling warm and free for the rest of the day. Some of the participants have had issues with their heart, lungs, blood pressure and cholesterol - as you are walking with a Physio, Mehalah is trained in first aid, and is able to assess whether it is appropriate for you to be exercising - you are in safe hands and will be monitored throughout the walk. Overall, the Walk For Health Club is a social, wholesome, safe and productive way to introduce some self care and health back into your life, without adding to an already busy schedule.
Come join us - every Tuesday at 12:30 by the Big Swamp Carpark (the one nearest to the kiosk). We look forward to seeing you there!
