We all got that email about the “new way of planning” for the NDIS… so let’s slow it down and talk about what this might actually mean 👇
There’s been a lot of mixed reactions — curiosity, hope, confusion, and yes… some concern too. And honestly, all of that makes sense.
Here’s the simple breakdown:
👉 The NDIA is talking about changes to how planning conversations happen and how participant needs are understood.
👉 There’s a stronger focus on structured planning processes and consistency across plans.
👉 Participants, families and representatives are being invited to provide feedback as the approach evolves.
So… is it good or bad?
Truthfully — it’s too early to call.
What could be positive:
✔️ More clarity and consistency if done well
✔️ Better understanding of functional needs (if lived experience is truly centred)
✔️ Potentially clearer expectations around funding decisions
What people are understandably worried about:
⚠️ Less flexibility or more rigid templates
⚠️ Planning becoming more “system-led” instead of person-led
⚠️ Whether individual stories and complexity will still be heard
My honest take:
Change in the NDIS always brings uncertainty. The most important thing right now is staying informed, asking questions, and making sure participant voices remain strong in the process.
If you received the email and felt unsure — you’re not alone.
Let’s talk:
👉 What was your first reaction?
👉 Curious, hopeful, cautious, concerned?
