What is the role of a Local Area Coordinator (LAC)?

Local area coordinators support people with disability to create and work towards their goals, build capacity to make their own decisions and choices and access the supports they need to live the life they choose.

Local area coordinators can help you to:
• Find practical information relevant to you – including information about disability, your rights and online supports and services.
• Understand and access the NDIS – including workshops or talking to you about the NDIS.
• Help with an NDIS plan – if you are eligible for supports through an NDIS plan, your local area coordinator will talk to you about your current situation, supports, and goals to help develop your plan. Local area coordinators cannot create or approve a plan, this is done by the NDIA.
• Implement your NDIS plan – your local area coordinator can assist you to understand and use the supports in your NDIS plan to help you achieve your goals.
• Apply for a plan reassessment – your local area coordinator can check-in with you during your plan and can help you to apply for changes to your plan with a plan reassessment or plan variation.

Local area coordinators also support communities and multiple levels of government to create a more inclusive society and deliver improved outcomes for all people with disability.

You can ask your local area coordinator about the supports available in your community, even if you're not eligible for a NDIS plan. Local area coordinators have strong connections in community and could help you connect with supports in your local area including community groups.

What is the role of Allied Health Providers in NDIS Support?

Allied health providers deliver therapeutic supports to participants of all ages. They provider evidence, assessments and reports that inform NDIS funding and planning decisions made by NDIA delegates (planners) under the NDIS Act.

Allied health providers may:
• refer people to information about who can access the NDIS.
• provide supporting evidence as part of an access request, including evidence that the person has or is likely to have a permanent disability.
• provide copies of reports or assessments that describe the extent of the functional impact of the disability.
• help with report writing for a participant plan reassessment.
• The NDIA sets price limits for some supports to ensure NDIS participants receive value for money.

In addition to Functional assessments, ongoing supports, and services,
Allied Health providers are responsible to assist participants to complete relevant assessments and reports to access Assistive technology and Home Modifications.

Peter’s Amazing Achievement!

We’re absolutely over the moon to share the fantastic success story of our client, Peter! 🎉 Despite living with a serious hearing impairment, Peter faced his challenges head-on, determined to not only communicate with the community but to chase his dreams. And guess what? He did it! 💪

With support from our amazing Support Coordinator Tom and a whole lot of his own hard work, Peter built up his skills, crafted a resume, and explored job opportunities. And it all paid off when he landed a part-time gig helping to keep a local workshop s***k and span—a huge win for Peter! 🧹✨

But the story doesn’t stop there! Peter had always dreamed of running his own mowing business, and with the support of our Employment/Career professional, that dream is now a reality! 🚜🌱 Peter’s got it all—an ABN, service agreements, insurance, and even his very first client. How amazing is that?

These days, Peter is juggling his own business with his part-time job, earning an income, managing his affairs, and living out his dream. We couldn’t be prouder of his incredible perseverance and the fantastic support from Team ASC that helped make this happen.

Let’s all take a moment to cheer Peter on and celebrate his incredible journey to success. 🥳👏 We’re so excited to support and see more clients achieve their dreams and independence!
