These mornings are getting fresh but I love it! 🥶 🧊

This is how I start my day, a quick dip in the pool in the cooler months or a cold shower in the warmer months. It is soooo invigorating!

There is so much debate over cold exposure for women but for me, it feels good and I trust my intuition. I don't do it every single day, it depends on where I am in my cycle or if my body is telling me otherwise.

How do you start your day? What feels good for you?

What 5 years of frequent night wakings & lots of breastfeeding CAN look like when you support your body/ nervous system....

I recently had a hormone & stress panel done and my cortisol came back pretty much perfect! Given I have not had more than a handful of nights in 5 years with more than 5 consecutive hours of sleep, I am stoked with this result, but it wouldn't be possible if I didn't support my body through many different holistic modalities and practices.

Now I am not saying I am perfect by any stretch and yes I do have other things I am always working through to improve and better my health & wellbeing, BUT if i were to live my life sedentary, eating processed food, indoors, detatched from nature etc etc all the things too common to many, there is NO WAY my adrenals would be regulated.

There are soooo many ways you can set yourself up for success in all areas of life and I am here to share my knowledge with you to help you be the best version of you.

DM me if you would like more information on how we can work together ❤️

It seems to be all the rage right now, so after many questions on methylene blue from my community, family & friends, I decided to dive deeper into the research.

Based on the research I have done (which I will admit is not a PHD in the subject but is enough for me to make an informed decision) I would not personally take this product long term.

Here are my reasons why:

1. This was originally created as a textile dye and is synthetic & often derived from petroleum (I typically try to avoid petroleum derived products). It is also commonly used in histopathology for staining of viruses etc

2. It is an estrogen inhibitor - maybe this has it's place in certain situations but it doesn't feel right for me & it also sets off alarm bells in my mind as to its long term impacts on hormones. I would also very much air on the side of caution if I were menopausal or had osteoporosis. I mean, we have estrogen for a reason right?

3. It inhibits prolactin aka the breastfeeding hormone - I think this is self explanatory

4. It in antibacterial. Yes this can be beneficial at times but my questions remain about long term impact on the gut microbiome. Whilst it may be selective in some instances, complete "annihilation" of "bad" bacteria isn't always good

5. The research I have found is very much looking at bodily influences in isolation rather than the synergistic effects it can have

6. It scores a 5 on EWGs skin deep database. Whilst this is not directly looking at the consumption of MB, it does highlight that safety concerns exist & data is lacking

7. It influences thyroid - this is definitely an area to exercise caution as if you enter into using MB without knowing your baseline thryoid function, you can disturb your endocrine system adversely

I do acknowledge that there can be positive effects on mitochondrial health & function & I would personally consider using this short term in an acute situation.

Day to day, to boost mitochondrial health I focus on grounding, sunlight, good quality water, a wholefoods diet, reducing toxic load & breathing properly

Should you include bleef liver in your diet???

Our ancestors have been eating organ meats long before they became "superfoods" because they didn't want to waste precious animal meat. But I think they also inately knew that organ meat, beef liver in particular, is such a nutrition powerhouse!

Beef liver is abundant in a whole array or vitamins & minerals including B12, folate, haem iron (most easily absorbed form), vitamin A, zinc, copper, protein and many more. All of which are important for:
- energy production
- healing
- immune function
- brain and nervous system regulation & function
- eye health
- fetal development

Essentially it is just a perfectly bundled package of nutrients with the essential cofactors for absorption. However the meat is only as healthy as the animal it came from, so always opt for grassfed & finished where possible 🐄 🌱

Note: There has been a lot of controversy around vitamin A and beef liver however these concerns have been debunked and the real concern lies within the consumption of too much synthetic vitamin A.

I personally like to consume organ meats in a variety of ways. Either in a liver pate form, minced meat that I use for pasta, patties, meatballs etc, powder form that I add to cooking, smoothies or into baking like cookies and slices, or in capsule form. The kids love it too 🏆 in fact liver pate was one of their first foods

So should you add liver and organ meats to your diet? Well that's up to you if you want to reap the benefits of this incredible food 😋

🌞 Have you had your vitamin D levels checked lately?

I had mine done at the end of winter/start of spring, and was very happy to see my levels were still great!

So what is vitamin D and why do we need it?

Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin that is essential for our health. Our body needs it in order to not just survive but to thrive. It tends to act more like a hormone than a vitamin. It helps our body absorb calcium, which is essential for bone, muscle, heart and oral health, as well as enables our immune system to function optimally.

We can synthesise vitamin D through adequate sun exposure (the most efficient way) and also from the foods we eat.

Without adequate vitamin D, we are at an increased risk of chronic diseases, inflammation, illness, fatigue, poor moods and more 😢

Have you had your dose of vitamin sunshine 🌞 today?

After plenty of interest in my recent story about my fasting insulin results, I thought I would share some more information about metabolic health and what you can do to improve it...best part, it's FREE!

☆So what it metabolic health and why is it important?
Metabolic health is essentially how well your body processes food and energy.

It is key to overall health and wellbeing, allows your body to function optimally to protect you from chronic disease. It helps us age gracefully and allows our cells to work as nature intended.

Poor metabolic health significantly increases the risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease, stroke and more.

☆How can we improve it?
As per the image above, there are many ways we can improve our metabolic health (please keep in mind this list is not comprehensive and is in no particular order of importance). However, if I could choose only one point to focus on, it would be to JUST EAT REAL FOOD 🥦🥕🍓🥩🥚. When you focus on a wholefoods diet, immediately you eliminate processed foods, sugary beverages and overconsumption of incomplete carbs, ultimately improving insulin sensitivity & setting the scene for a body that can be in a state of homeostasis.

✨️ DM me if you would like a check in for where your metabolic health may be sitting or for tailored guidance on how to improve your health. I will be opening my books again early 2025 for a limited number of clients so please let me know if you would like to be on the waitlist ✨️

***note this is not prescriptive, especially when it comes to fasting. A tailored approach to your health is always best 👌

I'm not going to lie, being a stay at home mumma to 2 little cherubs is demanding, challenging, hard & so much more, but above all, it is the most rewarding & beautiful thing I have ever done...it's moments like this one pictured above, that make it all worthwhile 💖💖💖

However, being present whilst raising our beautiful children is our priority, which is why we have decided to discontinue much of our BARE by Bauer branded products (for now at least). All of these products are handmade by us with love, but for now, we need to give that time and love to our children 💙💜

☆☆Once our current stock runs out, the only BARE product that we will CONTINUE making is our best-selling deodorant (normal & sensitive - 30 & 50ml sizes)☆☆

We will also continue to offer our eco-friendly cotton buds & toothbrushes and all our other favourite wholefood supplements & water filters

Lastly, I will continue to offer nutrition & smartDNA consultations, however this won't start up again until the New Year ✨️

Thank you so so much to everyone who has supported us and our small business over the past almost 6 years, we truly appreciate it and have loved providing you with healthy, toxin free skin care options. We hope to see you as our journey continues & our business evolves as we do 💜💙

A Nurses passion for health and wellness

Hello, I’m Candice Bauer, the founder of BAREbyBauer. I started studying nursing in 2009 to follow my two passions - health and helping others. In 2011, I graduated as a Registered Nurse and have been lucky enough to witness more miracles than most see over a lifetime; but I also have a backstage ticket to the worst days of their lives (please excuse the unsavoury pun). I love working as a nurse, with the highs, lows, wins and losses, it keeps me grounded and forever grateful.

My passions for health and helping others has transformed as my knowledge of holistic health and wellbeing grows. Rewind 10 years when, at the beginning of my career I was primarily focused on conventional medicine, my definition of health would have been something like… ”Health is about being a certain weight, being able to exercise and having a glowing tan”. Superficial hey? But not uncommon. It’s hard not to have these beliefs when we are surrounded by fashion magazines, advertisements with “beautiful” people, and mainstream social media accounts that put such emphasis on looking a certain way. Very damaging to our self love and self worth (but that deserves a whole other blog post).

Today, my understanding of health is much more holistic. Health is not only achieved through the food we eat, but also the air we breathe, the thoughts we think, the friends we surround ourselves with, our environment, the stresses we carry and the products we paint our skin with each day.
