Myopia (short-sightedness) is on the rise worldwide — it’s estimated that 1 in 3 people are currently affected, and by 2050, half the world’s population could have it.

Myopia occurs when the eye grows too long, causing distant objects to appear blurry. It often develops during childhood and can progress as children grow. Here are some common early signs to watch for:

✅ Sitting very close to the TV or holding books/tablets too close
✅ Squinting to see distant objects (like the classroom board)
✅ Blurry distance vision or complaining they “can’t see far away”
✅ Frequent eye rubbing, eye strain, or headaches

If you notice any of these, it may be time for an eye test. Early detection means better management — and can help slow down progression.

Contact us today for a vision check for your child. Best of all, most children's vision tests are bulk billed.

Today is World Retina Day! 👁️
You might be wondering: what does the retina do?

The retina is a thin layer at the back of your eye that captures light and turns it into signals your brain uses to create vision.

At our practice, we take retinal images during most eye tests to check for early signs of deterioration or disease. This simple step can help detect a range of conditions — and even pick up urgent issues such as retinal tears or detachments.

☀️🌸 The weather has warmed up, and with spring in full swing, pollen counts are on the rise. For many, that means itchy, watery, and irritated eyes.

Common spring allergy eye symptoms include:
✔️ Itching or burning
✔️ Redness
✔️ Watery eyes
✔️ Swelling around the eyes

💡 Pro tip: Rubbing your eyes can actually make symptoms worse. Instead, try cold compresses, lubricating eye drops, or speak to your optometrist about tailored relief options.

Don’t let allergies blur your spring days — book an appointment and let us help keep your eyes comfortable and clear. 🌼
