This week for Neurodiversity Celebration Week, I’m continuing to share some of my favourite books you can read with your child.

Today’s pick is My Body, My Brain by Nicki Gill.

This book helps children understand:
• how their brain and body work together
• that every brain is different
• that differences are not something to change
• how to feel safe and confident in who they are

It supports simple conversations that build understanding, acceptance, and self-awareness.

All of the books I’m sharing this week are available at Little Life Warriors HQ if you’d like to borrow them.

This one is my personal favourite.
You can also pick up a copy for around $10 at Kmart, making it an easy and affordable resource to have at home.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week Day

Today’s book share is The Red Beast ❤️
Written by by K.I. Al-Ghani and illustrated by Haitham Al-Ghani

This one is powerful for helping children understand big emotions, especially anger.

It shows how feelings can grow fast and feel out of control… like a “red beast” inside.

And more importantly, it shows that the beast isn’t bad.
It’s a signal.
A message.
A part of us that needs support, not shame.

What your child can learn from this book:

• Big feelings are normal
• Anger doesn’t make you “bad”
• Feelings can grow when they’re not understood
• You can learn ways to calm your body
• You are still in charge, even when emotions feel big

This book opens the door for real conversations with your child.

You might ask:

• “What does your red beast feel like?”
• “When does it show up?”
• “What helps your beast feel calmer?”

At Little Life Warriors, we see this every day in play.

Children don’t need fixing.
They need to feel safe enough to understand what’s happening inside them.

When a child can name their “red beast,”
they start to feel less scared of it…
and more in control of themselves.

Tomorrow I’ll be sharing another book you can use at home. On Friday I have something exciting to share with you!!!

Neurodiversity Celebration Week

All week I will be sharing picture books you can read with your child that celebrate different kinds of brains.

Today’s book is “The Rainbow Brain” by Sandhya Menon.

This story helps children understand that their brain can hold many feelings, thoughts, and ideas at the same time.
For many neurodivergent children, this experience is very real.

When you read this book with your child, it helps them learn:

• Some brains are busy, colourful, and full of ideas

• Having lots of thoughts or feelings at once is okay

• Big emotions can feel confusing, but they are part of how our brains work

• Every brain works differently and that difference is valuable

• Your unique way of thinking can be a strength

• You belong exactly as you are

Books like this open gentle conversations with children about how their brain works.

You might ask your child:

• What colours are in your brain today?
• When does your brain feel busy?
• What helps your brain feel calm?

At Little Life Warriors we see every day that it takes sun and rain to make a rainbow.

And every kind of brain adds a colour.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the next book recommendation.

And at the end of the week I have a very special book surprise I can’t wait to share with you. 🌈📚

It’s Neurodiversity Celebration Week.

A week that celebrates different brains and the strengths they bring to our communities.

This year the focus is on moving from acceptance to action.

Not just recognising that neurodivergent people exist.
But creating spaces where different ways of thinking, learning, and experiencing the world are understood, supported, and valued.

This week is close to my heart.

I share this space from two places.

• My own lived experience as a neurodivergent person
• My experience as a parent of neurodivergent children

Living it every day changes how you see the world.

You see the creativity.
The deep thinking.
The big emotions.
The incredible strengths.

You also see the barriers when systems are not built with different brains in mind.

That lived experience is one of the reasons I continue learning.

This year I began studying a Master of Autism at Griffith University so I can deepen my understanding and support children and families even better through Little Life Warriors.

Stories are one simple way to help children understand different brains.

Picture books help children:

• see themselves
• understand their friends
• learn that different ways of thinking belong

All week I will be sharing picture books you can read with your child that celebrate different neurotypes and encourage belonging and understanding.

And at the end of the week…

I have a very special book reveal.

A story I have been so excited to share.

I can’t wait for you to see it.

Little Life Warrior Community,

Thank you for your patience and understanding over the past few days while our community has been managing the flooding situation.

I hope everyone is safe. At this stage I am not aware of any Little Life Warriors families being directly affected. If your family has been impacted and needs help with clean up, please reach out. I am more than happy to bring along my own little mud army to help where we can.

Little Life Warriors is open as normal, though please remain mindful that some road closures may still be in place. Only travel if it is safe for your family.

If you would like to reschedule any missed appointments from this week, please get in touch and I will do my best to find a suitable time.

Take care everyone and thank you for being such a supportive community.

Little Life Warrior Community,

Flooding in our community can bring many questions and worries for children. Your response can help them feel safer.

You can support your child by:

• Speaking calmly and simply about what is happening
• Reassuring them that adults are working to keep people safe
• Answering questions honestly
• Limiting how much news they see or hear
• Keeping routines where possible
• Giving children ways to express feelings through play, drawing, or talking

Some children may not talk about their worries directly. They may show it through behaviour, sleep changes, clinginess, or big emotions. These are normal responses to uncertainty.

Helpful resources for families:

Spending time together, playing, and staying calm helps children feel safe.

Bundaberg families

Little Life Warriors will be open today for families who feel it is safe to travel.

Please be mindful of road closures and changing conditions and only attend if it is safe for your family.

There have been a few cancellations today, so if you would like to reschedule an appointment to today, please contact Alison and I will do my best to fit you in.

If you would prefer not to attend in person, other options are available:

• Teleplay session
• Parent consultation by phone
• Progress report session

Our thoughts are with the families in our community who have been affected by the flooding. Times like this can feel unsettling for children. Keep conversations simple and calm. Let them know what is happening, reassure them that adults are working to keep people safe, and answer their questions honestly.

Stay safe everyone and take care when travelling.

Little Life Warriors Community,

Due to the Flood Watch and Act warning issued for Bundaberg Central just now, Little Life Warriors will be closed today.

Safety always comes first for our families and our community.

Emails have been sent to families with appointments today with options for alternative sessions, including teleplay, parent consultations, or progress report sessions.

At times like this, children often take their cues from the adults around them. Staying calm, keeping routines simple, and reassuring them that the adults are watching the situation helps children feel safe.

I will continue monitoring conditions and will provide an update regarding tomorrow once more information is available.

Please stay safe and keep an eye on updates via the Bundaberg Disaster Dashboard:
