Wondering if your baby is getting enough milk?

This is one of the most common worries I hear from new mums—and you’re not alone if you’ve asked yourself this

The good news?
There are some really simple signs we can look at to reassure you 👇

✔️ Plenty of wet nappies
✔️ Frequent feeding
✔️ Hearing swallows
✔️ Regular bowel motions

If these are happening, your baby is likely getting what they need

✨ Remember:
Your baby feeding often does NOT mean you don’t have enough milk—it’s actually how your body builds supply.

If you’re ever unsure, reach out for support.

Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out, sent messages, and checked in over the past little while.

It truly means so much to know my little village was ready to step in and support me with whatever I needed. I feel incredibly lucky to have that kind of support around me over the past couple of months but especially the past few weeks.

I’m really happy to share that while things are still a bit of a work in progress, I’m feeling so much better and have been given the tick to start easing back into normal life.

There are still a few things I’m learning along the way, but overall I’m hopeful that it will be back to business as usual.

Thank you again for your kindness, patience and understanding during this time — it hasn’t gone unnoticed

I’ve been a little quiet over here at Ask Emma lately — but there’s been a lot happening behind the scenes - both good and bad 🤍

I wanted to share that I’m currently navigating some health concerns. I’m being very well supported by my medical team and everything is being carefully investigated and managed.

For the time being, I won’t be offering home visits — with the exception of a small number of newly postpartum clients who have already booked this service. For these visits, I will need to have a driver bring me to and from your home.

All other appointments are still available via my home office, phone or via telehealth and I’m here to continue supporting you as best as I can.

This is an evolving situation, and there may be a need for some time off in the coming weeks depending on how things progress. I’ll keep you updated if anything changes.

Thank you so much for your understanding, kindness, and ongoing support — it truly means a lot 🤍

Flood Preparation for Families with Babies

With the current flood warnings and estimations to reach 2010 flood height now is a good time for families with babies to prepare. Little ones rely on us for everything, so having a few essentials ready can make things much easier if power is lost or access to shops becomes limited.

Things to check now:

Feeding supplies
Make sure you have enough formula or feeding supplies to last several days. If formula feeding, ensure you also have safe drinking water available for preparing bottles.

Clean water
Fill clean containers with drinking water for preparing bottles, washing hands and basic cleaning if water supplies become disrupted.

Lighting and power
Have torches, spare batteries and power banks ready in case of power outages. Night feeds are much easier when you can see what you’re doing.

Baby essentials
Check you have enough nappies, wipes, spare clothes, blankets and any comfort items your baby relies on.

Medications and health items
Make sure you have any baby medications, thermometer and basic first aid items on hand.

Emergency baby bag
Consider packing a small bag you can grab quickly that includes nappies, wipes, feeding supplies, a change of clothes and a comfort item.

For breastfeeding mums
Continue feeding on demand. Breastfeeding can be especially helpful in emergencies as it provides both nutrition and hydration for baby.

Preparation doesn’t mean the worst will happen — it just means your family is ready if needed.

Stay safe everyone 💛

They’re tiny, shiny and incredibly dangerous.

Every day in Australia, at least one child is hospitalised after swallowing a button battery. In just 2 hours, a lodged battery can burn through the oesophagus and cause life-threatening injuries.

Symptoms aren’t always obvious.
If you suspect ingestion — even without symptoms — treat it as a medical emergency.

New first aid guidelines you NEED to know:
• Call the Poisons Information Centre: 13 11 26
• Call 000 if your child has trouble breathing
• Give 2 teaspoons of honey every 10 minutes on the way to hospital
(If under 12 months, use jam instead due to botulism risk)
• Do not give anything else by mouth - including water

Honey or jam won’t fix the problem — but research shows it can help slow tissue damage and buy critical time.

There are now button batteries that come with a bitter taste and a blue dye that is released when they come in contact with moisture as an alert to parents.

Save this. Share this. It could save a life.
