Some people have asked me as they know I have a bit of a gaming hobby and tend to use my switch 2 as a sensory toys a lot what I would say the benefits of that console are specifically when compared to others they can get for their kids or in some cases themselves so I decided to make a post about it for you! Sorry in advance because it at a long one but I wanted to make sure anyone who buys it is very well informed! I promise I didn’t say anything I did not feel like needed to be said and I understand if you can’t read it all in one sitting so I did bullet points for you so hopefully you can skip to whatever is most relevant to you! With that out of the way here we go:
Pro 1 it’s pretty dang durable, don’t get me wrong a kid could still break it but much more unlikely than any other console on the market right now! They’d have to do something that would more likely break the object it’s hitting than it and even then it’s questionable if it would break!
Pro 2 it’s got a huge variety of different games including an insanely large library of genres! So if you’re looking for something that expands your potential scope of experience in you gaming hobby this little guys got you covered and then some! Want a role playing game but tired of the usual boring tropes and wish a game existed to break them it’s here, want a horror game that more psychologically challenging than physically demanding it’s here, want a game with 90s style graphics but modern sensibilities it’s here, want to want to learn what it feels like to see the world through the eyes of a kid who’s been diagnosed with cancer it’s here, want a chill game where you just walk down a road with fun s**t happening around you guess what it’s here! You name the concept for a game it’ll be here in this game library!
Pro 3 it’s got safe and effective ways to buy digital games that don’t result in your information being saved unless you ask for it meaning that you can feel free to download any game you see in the virtual store which is an insanely large list. No need for store visits so no social interaction and no fuss required. Also because it’s not a game in the physical plane no chance of losing it, especially since if somehow little Timmy miraculously finds a way to break this sturdy gaming machine you can re-download any game you’ve purchased in the past for free from the internet again as long as you get a new system for it to be put onto! Once you have bought it if you have a switch or switch 2 console you have ability to play the game.
Pro 4 if you’re a parent you can customise the parent controls so kids don’t see anything in the virtual store that you don’t want tempting them or socialise online with anyone you don’t approve of, you can also set up the rules so that they only see age appropriate settings that are different on different profiles. This means if you’re 12 and 4 year old want to share a console together the games a 12 year old might like and would be appropriate for them but not the 4 year old will only be playable and seeable by them and not their 4 year old little sibling.
Pro 5 good batteries for a portable consul, it charges ludicrously fast taking like a half hour and stays charged for on average about 4 to 5 hours before you need to plug it back in. Although if you’re hard on yours like I am it might be closer to 2-3 hours which is still pretty good especially given the circumstances.
Pro 6 I have never seen a console embrace the indie games development scene the way this one has, there are not only like an insanely large amount of independent developers games that have made there way into the console but also some specific ports that make it a slightly more fun experience then before. My personal favourite is some of the changes the guy behind undertale made to his game adding some switch version specific characters that make great use of the switches joy con controller in their mechanics! That’s not even mentioning all the indie games that are original to the switch and switch 2 themselves and not ports of ones first released elsewhere! If like me you highly support independent artists this is I’d say a huge pro!
Pro 7: Many retail stores that sell them will also repair general ware and tear that happens if you bring them in meaning they in the rare chance they break can be repaired and will work like new again! It’s not free but it’s usually pretty affordable so I suggest you take it to any video game retailers in your area if anything bad happens to it so that they can fix it for you. Again while unlikely it’s been specifically asked about to me by parents for their kids so just covering all bases here because let’s face it children often find a way to break what’s pretty unbreakable.
Con 1 specifically only for the switch 2 it’s got a software lock on memory cards that means you’ll need to buy one of the Nintendo approved ones which tend to have less storage space but if you get a switch 1 that’s not an issue with them so use anything that fits in its slot memory card wise!
Con 2 this ones switch 1 specific they have a software lock on some but not all of the newer games so if your after something specific you might want to make sure it’s available to you on the first model before you decide on it over the newest one. Some games also just run better on the second over the first so depending on how important that is to you you also might want to be careful there!
Con 3 some of the games very wildly in price so sometimes you’ll see a game that’s 80 bucks for like 3 hours of gameplay that you get bored of tomorrow but other times you’ll find a game you’ll still be playing and enjoying the fun of years from now and still not be bored of for like 5 bucks and everything in between. Many games have a free demo version you can download that covers the opening parts of them but not much else so I suggest you use it before spending your hard earned money on it. Those few that don’t I would recommend looking up a play-through of online for just to make sure you’re not getting taken for a ride by the Wild West price system here. I recommend if your going to do that going with a text based review over a YouTube video or something like that because then you won’t get spoiled on any fun story surprises but I ain’t the boss of you so look up a video instead of googling a text based one if you’re interested in doing that instead!
Over all I highly recommend this console, it’s not perfect nore for everyone but nothing is and I think more people then not would benefit more than they’d suffer from it. That being said if it ain’t for you I totally think you should listen to that gut of yours man!
