✨✨WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK✨✨

Rory girl and I are celebrating 15 months of on demand breastfeeding and I am so proud of us 🤱🏻🥛💕🥹

Breastfeeding has been one of the most beautiful experiences ever, but it has also been incredibly hard and anxiety inducing at times. The fear of are they getting enough milk? Is my supply ok? How’s her latch?

The 3am google spirals. The tongue tie surgery. The unquenchable thirst. The teary calls to the literal angels at . The pumping. Bottle refusal! Bombarding my lactation consultation with 1 million questions. The biting (oh the biting!) 🥺

But here we are, we made it through those crazy bleary eyed months and now we are feeding like it ain’t no thing 💅 feeding in planes, trains and automobiles, cafes, back alleys at restaurants, you name it 😂

It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been so worth it. Australian women really need more support to help women continue breastfeeding (if that’s what they desire). Postpartum care should include affordable access to qualified and experienced lactation consultants, more education, mental health support and longer paid maternity leave. We deserve better!

What has your breastfeeding journey looked like? Sending love and hugs to those in the feeding trenches ❤️❤️

Here’s a gentle reminder for the perfectionists out there, or the “all or nothing peeps” (also talking to my former self here!)⁣ 🙋🏻‍♀️

Anyone out there feel me? Feeling the pressure of having to do everything to a 110% standard… or on the flip side, doing nothing. Going to the gym 6 times a week, or…. not at all. Eating 100% clean… or eating whatever the heck you want. No in between, or middle ground, black or white. How exhausting, right? ⁣🫣

It’s almost as if things aren’t done perfectly 100% of the time, then they aren't worth doing. ⁣🫠

But the cool thing is with health, is that we don’t have to have this all or nothing mentality. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐭. ⁣🤩

Small changes add up. If you are having trouble making change or fostering healing, 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟏% 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐲. ⁣💪🏼

While small changes might not seem like that matter much in the moment, 𝐚 𝟏% 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐮𝐧. As James Clear says, “Making a choice that is 1% better or 1 % worse seems insignificant in the moment, but over the span of moments that make up a lifetime these choices determine the difference between who you are and who you could be.” ⁣🌿

What is a small change, aka a 1%, that you could implement on a daily basis that will improve your health? Drinking one extra glass of water a day? Going for a walk around the block? Eating breakfast? ⁣🌿

I get it. Change can be really hard. But focus on progress over perfection, and look for those small changes you can make. If you need help with your health, DM me or book in a complimentary chat ⁣❤️

Naturopaths are always banging on about preconception, and how we’d like a 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝟑 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐬 (ideally 6-12) 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐠𝐠 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐁𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠. Are you wondering 𝗪𝐇𝐘?⁣

Each menstrual cycle, ovaries produce 1 dominant follicle that releases 1 egg. It takes 355 days for an immature primordial follicle to develop to the ovulatory stage where it can be released.

- 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬: are tiny, only 0.025 millimetres in length & cannot be seen on ultrasound. All primordial follicles are developed in utero & are dormant until we reach puberty. It takes almost 12 months for these guys to turn into an ovulatory follicle. Each menstrual cycle, the follicle that ovulates was recruited nearly a year ago!⁣
- Takes 150 days/5 months for a primordial follicle to reach the primary follicle stage.⁣

- 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬: continue to develop. ⁣
- Takes 120 days/4 months for a primary follicle to become a secondary follicle. ⁣
- 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬: in this phase many follicles will undergo atresia/degeneration. Those that survive will continue developing. ⁣

- 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬: the number of antral follicles you have each month will vary & can be seen on an ovarian ultrasound. ⁣
- It takes about 50 days from the antral follicle to develop to the preovulatory stage.
- 𝐃𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞: it takes 15- 20 days for a dominant follicle to become the preovulatory follicle. ⁣

Happy new year friends! 🎇

I hope you had a restful and restorative Christmas and New Year with your loved ones. I’ve been a little quiet on here the last few months; I tend to retreat from the online world when I have a lot going on in the real world. 🐢

After a fairly heavy 2022, I am keen to cultivate more fun, joy and lightness in 2023. While I believe we can pause, take stock and pivot in our lives at any time, there is something about ushering in a new year this is symbolic of new beginnings and things to come. 🌅

What are you intending to cultivate this year? What things do you have on the horizon? Comment below 🌸
