🫖 Weekend Chai Ritual 🫖
A couple of mornings a week, mostly on weekends, I’ll spend time making my favorite chai. Honestly I’ve gotten so particular about it that buying a chai out at a nice cafe is often a disappointment. 😜
Blanket naturopathic statement- caffeine is the devil. 👿☕️
It encourages depleted cortisol, increased adrenaline, spikes then crashes our blood glucose levels, affects our nervous system and puts a heavy load on the liver. Oh, AND it inhibits the absorption of some of our essential nutrients such as iron. 👎🏼
For someone who is sensitive to caffeine like me, a cup of coffee on rare occasion seems ok, but have two in a week and I’m likely to be anxious, irritable, overthinking, sweaty, reactive, and experience poor sleep. Oh and tired. 🤦🏽♀️
So yeah... it’s just not my medicine. Even strong chai teas can affect me- more mildly but they still contain caffeine from black tea. I have found my combination to be the most beneficial for negating the yucky side effects of caffeine, while still enjoying the benefits! This is what I do...
Heat about 500ml of unsweetened almond milk on the stove with 2-3 heaped TBS of sticky chai mix (original and turmeric are my favorites).
Then I strain into the best keep cup I’ve ever had (because it’s so BIG, is insulated and fits all my chai!!) from .eco, then add about 2ml of an alcohol extracted medical mushroom tincture. I’m currently using Sh*take for its immune building and antioxidant properties from .
I then add a scoop of collagen powder- this one is for hair skin and nails. This mix is about 90% protein, so it slows down gastric emptying, helps to modulate blood glucose and gives more energy for longer. 💪🏼
I’ve found that the combo of medicinal mushrooms and either collagen or gelatin reduces the caffeine spike and crash, plus the protein keeps me full for longer. 😋
Happy chai-ing! 😘❤️🫖
