Point Name: Taichong (Liver 3) - "Great Rushing"
Function: This is an important point on the Liver meridian, also known as the Shu-Stream and Yuan-Source point. It is associated with the Earth element within the Liver channel.

Location: This point is situated on the top of the foot, in the valley or webbing between the big toe and second toe. Use your thumb or index finger to apply pressure between the bones. When performing acupressure, begin with light pressure, as this point may be tender. Gradually increase the pressure to moderate to firm, massaging for 1-2 minutes.

Benefits:

Liver Qi Regulation: Supports the flow of energy (qi) in the Liver meridian, helping to alleviate stress and symptoms of stagnation such as pain, mood swings, and tension.
Wind Subduing: Helps in calming the Liver and mitigating wind-related issues.
Blood and Yin Nourishment: Supports the nourishing functions of the Blood and Liver yin.

General Information: While the Liver doesn't produce qi, it plays a crucial role in maintaining a smooth and balanced flow of qi throughout the body. When Liver qi becomes stagnant, it can cause feelings of pressure, distention, and discomfort, often in areas traversed by the Liver and Gallbladder channels. Emotional expression and physical movement can help release stagnation and promote qi flow.

The name "Great Rushing" highlights this point's role in facilitating the flow of qi through the channel. It is a primary point for promoting free-flowing Liver qi and resolving stagnation that may cause pain and discomfort in various areas of the body.

Our adventure to Japan will soon be under way and we can't wait, especially to hug my eldest lads after their time living and working in Nozawa Onsen. I’m sure skiing, amazing food, culture and plenty of fun are ahead of us as a family!

Travel always gives me fresh perspective. It helps shift what’s stuck and reminds me what truly matters. It’s wonderful for our Qi — a real state changer, much like acupuncture itself.

Change is constant, and learning to move with it keeps us healthy and happy.

Of course, my needles are coming with me, I never leave home without them. I’m also hoping to experience a treatment with a Japanese Acupuncture Sensei while I’m there.

Take care and I’ll see you all very soon.

When we ask another to meet our deeper needs,
the relationship starts carrying what belongs to us,
our growth.
Taking this back changes and empowers, everything.

One of our lovely clients asked if Green Tea is cooling in Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Yes, in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), green tea is considered to have a cooling nature. It is often classified as a beverage that can help to clear heat, reduce internal inflammation, and support the body in cooling down, especially during hot weather or when someone is experiencing symptoms like fever or irritability.

Green tea is believed to have the following qualities in TCM:

Cool nature: Green tea is thought to cool the body and clear heat, making it suitable for conditions related to excess heat or yang.
Clear heat and detoxify: It helps clear heat from the body, especially from the lungs and stomach, and it is often recommended for conditions like sore throat, irritability, or even acne.
Promotes fluid production: Green tea can also help nourish fluids, which is beneficial if the body is dehydrated due to heat.
However, it is important to note that green tea contains caffeine, which in excess can also have a stimulating, warming effect on the body, so it's often recommended in moderation.

In general, green tea is best suited for individuals with excess internal heat or those living in hot climates. If someone has a cold or deficient condition, a warm or neutral tea might be a better choice.

This is how TCM understands sleep patterns and how important it is to get the right diagnosis. I hope the below makes it a little clearer and how Involved it is when our sleep goes heywire. Which one are you and also you could be a mixture of a few???

Organ System Imbalance (Zang-Fu Theory)
TCM attributes specific functions—physical, emotional, and spiritual—to each organ. Interrupted sleep often relates to dysfunction in one or more of the following organs:

Heart: The Heart "houses the Shen" (spirit/mind). If Heart Qi or Blood is deficient, or if there's excess Heat in the Heart, it can disturb the Shen, leading to frequent waking or restless sleep.

Liver: If Liver Qi is stagnant or Liver Blood is deficient, it may cause waking between 1-3 a.m.—the Liver's active time—often with irritability or vivid dreams.

Kidneys: Deficient Kidney Yin can lead to an internal Heat that disrupts sleep, especially if one wakes in the early morning hours (around 3-5 a.m.), feeling hot or anxious.

Spleen: Weak Spleen Qi may fail to produce enough Blood to nourish the Heart, leading to a restless mind.

Disharmony of Yin and Yang
In TCM, Yin represents stillness, coolness, and rest, while Yang represents activity, heat, and movement. Healthy sleep requires the Yang to return to Yin at night.

Yin Deficiency (especially of the Heart, Liver, or Kidneys): Not enough cooling, nourishing energy to anchor the Yang at night, resulting in light sleep, frequent waking, night sweats, or feeling hot at night.

Yang Excess or Internal Heat: Too much Yang energy at night overstimulates the mind, preventing deep sleep and causing restlessness or dream-disturbed sleep.

See you in the clinic if your sleep is evading you.

Through the IVF process, there's a lot of waiting. Waiting for your period to arrive to start the injections, waiting to see how many eggs your delicate ovaries have produced, waiting to see how many you retrieve and how many make it through the fertilization and then the big wait to see if the little one will stick. I'm sure I've missed more than one of the waits during the IVF process as there are many. So we can see how easy it would be to become stressed and so easy to see how anxiety and worry is a big part of this process. My hat goes off to all these brave wonderful women and their partners that are journeying down this road. It's Big!

So how does acupuncture bring about this calm...it supports well being.

So change the busy productive you into a more slowing down what you love to do, what makes your heart sing. If it doesn't bring a slow smile to your face then don't do it. This is the perfect state for the wait.

When things seem difficult or complicated,
it may be because you’re caught in your usual way of thinking,
and the signal you need lives outside your everyday reality.

Signals don’t always arrive as clear thoughts or neat solutions.
They come in sideways.
Through terrifying dreams.
Through body symptoms that keep recurring.
Through early childhood memories that resurface unexpectedly,
fragments from a time before you learned who to be.

Dreams are our maps.
The body, our compass.
And flirts, visions from the edge of seeing.

These interruptions are signals pointing to another way of being.

And when you slow down enough to notice what’s happening in the periphery,
you discover that your way was never lost,
just waiting outside your familiar identity.

You are not late.
You are not early.
You are right where the river bends.

What you are calling a crisis
is the sound of the current changing speed.

Stop arguing with the water.
Loosen your grip on the shore you memorized.

What falls away was never yours to carry this far.
What remains is quieter, and truer.

Do less on purpose.
Trust what keeps returning.
Let the next shape of your life
arrive without being named first.

And then it would probably smile and say nothing else—because the Tao is annoyingly confident that silence will finish the job.
