It's the chant no one wants to hear! 🦟
As we move into the warmer months, summer sport begins, but so does mosquito season. And the mozzies are match fit!
Mozzies in Queensland can carry serious diseases, such as Ross River Virus, Barmah Forest Virus, Japanese Encephalitis Virus and dengue.
Some of these diseases can cause long lasting symptoms or require medical assistance. That's why it's important to protect yourself whether you're enjoying the great outdoors at a sporting match, or just at home.
The best way to avoid mozzie bites is to:
🦟 Use insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
👕 Wear loose-fitted, light-coloured clothing and covered footwear.
♨️ Use mosquito coils outdoors.
🏠 Remove breeding sites from your home (empty items that hold water, keep lawns mowed, drain and fill pools of water).
