Yes, I started aerial gymnastics at age 40. As a lifelong athlete, I always encourage my patients & students to continue moving, but in the best way for their bodies. Moving with emphasis on awareness, control, and technique, and with exercises to rehab and prevent further injuries. 💪🏼😁

This basket of goodness was a gift from a financial planning company I’ve been providing Corporate Wellness Services to for over 4 years! Teaching yoga, Pilates, breath work & meditation either weekly or fortnightly to this amazing team has truly been a pleasure. I appreciate the gesture of gratitude ☺️

*5 YEARS*
Wow… 5 years in business already? I do still pinch myself sometimes and think, I just knew I had to try it my way, and it worked! 😀

Apparently about half of small businesses fail within 5 years. I am truly grateful that Inspire is going stronger than ever and that I LOVE it. What a gift to enjoy working everyday with passion!

I also acknowledge that I created it. I took risks and made it work. Friends tell me I should be proud, and I am ☺️

The personal & professional growth, the collaborations made, and the people I have been privileged to meet along the way have made it an incredible journey.

So THANK YOU to all my amazing supporters, patients, and yogi students for being a part of it. 💛

WINDSHIELD WIPERS!

This is a favourite “mobilizer” for pain/stiffness in the low back & hips. This area tends to like gentle movement rather than deeper holds, especially when in more acute pain.

Simple steps:
1. Lie on back
2. Bend knees and plant feet at wide as the mat
3. Slowly knock both knees side to side, only as far as feels good (alternate)
4. I recommend moving with the breath: inhale for knees up, exhale to the side
5. 5-10 reps each side… can add a gentle hold at the end if it feels good

Wipers can be done many times throughout the day, and even before getting out of bed in the morning for those who feel really stiff/sore on waking.

A great reliever!!

4 years ago, I just knew I had to do it my way, taking more time with each patient and incorporating yoga in some way. I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out.

I’m a Dietitian, Nutritionist & Personal Trainer.
I have been in the fitness industry for 13 years and struggled with mainstream gyms and their approach to helping people through fitness and nutrition. So, I ventured out on my own and created DBD Fitness a small group and personal training gym. BUT it wasn’t enough, I hated the idea of gym challenges (hello they never work) but couldn’t quite put my finger on how to change it. So, I went to Uni to become a Dietitian to better understand how to help people make real behaviour change through not only now fitness but also nutrition.
What I do.
I don’t write meal plans (sorry but you don’t follow them), I don’t teach the next best diet, I don’t focus just on weight loss BUT what I do focus on is teaching you how to eat in the real world. NO diets, NO crazy restrictions, ALL food can be and should be enjoyed.
What I aim to bring to the table (😆) is affordable Dietetic services to people who are sick of the yoyo and want to make long term behaviour change through, private one on one consults OR group nutrition education programs. I also have a passion for HEALTH which means managing and preventing chronic disease (Prediabetes/Diabetes, High cholesterol, Hypertension) for both Men and Women (In fact I believe we need more Men’s focused health groups).

The SIDE PLANK is an effective core exercise for rehab & prevention of low back pain! Highly supported by research, it is the final of Stuart McGill’s “big 3”. {See my PREVIOUS POSTS for videos of the first 2.}

Low back pain is a serious issue worldwide and a common cause of chronic disability & depression. I had severe low back injury which caused me about 10 years of chronic pain, from the age of 16! These exercises, along with the right knowledge, were the main factors in my complete recovery.

The key is repeatedly emphasizing a NEUTRAL SPINE, which is how our natural curvatures align when we stand tall (see my previous post on posture setting), developing core ENDURANCE around this ideal posture.

See the video on how to do the side plank with correct technique.

And this completes the set of 3 😀
For rehab, I recommend you do these exercises once a day, holding 10 seconds 4 times each side. For prevention, 3 times a week should suffice.
