Has it been months and months of negative pregnancy tests without any results?

👋 Hi I’m Katie, Accredited Practicing Dietitian, certified fertility Dietitian and founder of . I have been helping women with their nutrition for over 13 years and love seeing the amazing improvements in quality of life good nutrition can have in my clients.

🌸 We have a few new faces here lately so I thought I would share a bit about myself. I’m a beach babe at heart 🌊☀️, I love beach walks, bush walks and reformer pilates. I love cooking, learning new recipes and also good quality chocolate 🍫 ❤️ (yes Dietitian’s do eat chocolate 😆!). Are you a chocolate lover too?

I can’t wait to meet you too, so DM me to say hi!

🌸 Uterine fibroids. Those annoying little non-cancerous lumps of tissue that can grow inside the uterus. Normally they are no worry however if they happen to be in the wrong place this is one factor that could cause implantation failure. How frustrating!

✨ Luckily we know that some of the following dietary changes could help reduce your risk of growing these little pests.

🥂🍷🍺 Reducing alcohol intake. Don't worry this will get you into good habits for once you conceive anyway!

🥩🥓 Reducing your intake of red meat and ham. Aim for more unprocessed poultry, fish, seafood, eggs and vegetarian proteins such as chickpeas, lentils and beans instead.

Reducing your intake of food additives. Hello 👋 natural unprocessed diet.

🥛🍶🧀 Including dairy foods regularly in your diet. Interestingly no difference between low fat or full fat dairy was seen in the research.

💫 For more tips on reducing your fibroid risk speak to us today to get an individualised plan.

✨ There can be many factors contributing to infertility, some are modifiable whereas others are not. Luckily diet is one area you can change to have amazing improvements in your chances of falling pregnant.

Finally, some research that really shows how much of a health scam the 'pink Himalayan salt' trend is. An independent analysis of 31 samples of pink salt available in Australia shows that the quantity of additional essential minerals it contains is negligible for how much of the salt a person would eat. Oh, and it comes with a nice side-serve of heavy metals (which has been suggested in prior research and now this study confirms it). If you need to buy salt, just buy 'regular' salt (preferably iodised) - don't buy this pink rubbish and think you're levelling up your health. So much great nutrition research coming out lately....this one speaks some more on mental health, specifically anxiety, and links with the gut and / or our diet....confirming what we already know in terms of some good sensible advice.

We spoke to a psychologist and a dietitian to dive deeper into the link between food and anxiety, and find out what sufferers should and shouldn’t be eating.

A new study out today discussed in The Conversation aimed to examine the benefits of vitamin and mineral supplements for prevention of heart disease, stroke and premature death (termed “all-cause mortality”). This found the most commonly studied ones had no effect, while some less common ones did have an effect. The review also found some supplements can be harmful. Bottom line: Taking vitamins as supplements doesn't necessarily work like an insurance policy against a poor diet, and in some cases can do harm. Read more below....

A new review of 180 studies found little or no protective effects from taking dietary supplements, and actually found some harm.

The first results of the largest study (affectionately named(!) 'The American Gut Project') to have ever investigated the human microbiome are in! They used what's called citizen science — the practice in which the public contributes to research by offering their time and personal data up for analysis. As part of the project, participants paid $99 for a kit that collected f***l, oral, and skin samples of bacteria. There were some important implications from the findings in several areas including:
-importance of a diverse, plant-based diet.
-gut bacteria and mental health.

Medical News Today reports: First, the results suggest that a more diverse plant-based diet makes for a more bacterially diverse gut. Specifically, those who consumed more than 30 different types of plant each week had much more diverse microbiomes than those who consumed only 10 or fewer types of plant weekly. Second, the results demonstrated that people who reported mental health issues had more bacteria in common with other people who reported similar problems than they did with the controls.

Wow! Interesting findings that are just the beginnings of improving our understanding of the intimate relationship between to our mental health and the gut microbiome and how a varied diet influences diversity of the same. Stay tuned!

'The largest crowd-sourced' project to ever have studied the human microbiome has published its first results. They drop new clues about our gut health.
