I personally have found no better system for self-care than the practice of Yoga. Yoga is bigger than most people are aware of. It is not just exercise! It is a whole system that leads you towards a more peaceful life.

What Does the Research Show?
~ Stress Management. Some research indicates that practicing yoga can lead to improvements in physical or psychological aspects of stress.
~ Balance. Several studies that looked at the effect of yoga on balance in healthy people found evidence of improvements.
~ Positive Mental Health. Some but not all studies that looked at the effects of yoga on positive aspects of mental health found evidence of benefits, such as better resilience or general mental well-being.
~ Health Habits. A survey of young adults showed that practicing yoga regularly was associated with better eating and physical activity habits.

A little 🐦 told me, Open the Heart

"Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it."
β€”Rumi

Life can be wonderful and good, except for those times when it’s not. When we get hurt, or when the hurts pile up, we can feel lonely, stuck, overwhelmed, or like we are cut off from ourselves and everything around us
When the heart can begin to open and relax, we get in touch with our positive coreβ€”the source of our natural emotional and spiritual intelligence. When this part of us is accessed, it can help move our life forward again toward balance and health.

"The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human body."

The sacral chakra, located just below your navel, is essential for fostering creativity.

By focusing on the hips and pelvis we can tap into the creative aspect of the Sacral chakra.

Another Sanskrit word that comes up in class is Pranayama (prah -nah -yah -mah).

Pranayama is a collection of breathing techniques for capturing and manipulating prana.
Prana is the breath, considered as a life-giving force.

It is an important part of yoga, frequently absorbed into asana practice or used as a warm-up before meditation.

Pranayama can be defined as method of extending and expanding vital life energy through the focus of respiration.

Drishti meaning focused gaze.

A Sanskrit word that means we use our eyes for developing concentrated intention in a yoga asana or in meditation.

Put simply we direct our gaze at one spot; third eye, thumb, candle, mandala or something in front of us.

Keeping our gaze soft without staring helps to stay present and focused.
