Harbison Harbison is a community-owned, not-for-profit organisation in the Southern Highlands of NSW.

For over 65 years, we’ve supported people through every stage of life with trusted care, connection and wellbeing for all ages. Harbison is a community-owned not-for-profit approved aged care provider committed to safe and quality care services. We have two locations on the traditional lands of the Gundungarra people, at Moss Vale and Burradoo (Bowral), in the Southern Highlands of NSW. We offer the full range of care and lifestyle services to support older people as their needs change. This includes a range of aged care accommodation: specialised dementia care, respite care, residential care, home care, palliative care and NDIS. In 1956, Harbison was established in the Southern Highlands by a group of volunteers who recognised a high, local need for aged care services. After more than sixty years, we remain dedicated to serving the local community and are a thriving organisation, employing over 350 staff. We are proud of the history we have in this beautiful area and with the generations who live here. We truly believe we offer the best place to grow old in the Southern Highlands.

There’s something special about our Ladies Leisure Group 💙

Each week, this wonderful group of women comes together to create, connect and share in the joy of making. From crafting and knitting to sewing and everything in between, their creativity truly knows no bounds, and we love seeing their ideas come to life.

Supported by our beautiful staff and volunteers, these afternoons are about so much more than what’s made by hand. They’re about friendship, laughter, a sense of purpose, and the simple pleasure of spending time together.

We are very proud to share that we have taken home 3 awards at the Ageing Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards 2026 for our falls prevention Nobi Smart Lighting implementation!

We took home the winning awards for:

This is a huge moment for our organisation and a reflection of the innovation, care and commitment happening across our homes every day.

As part of our ongoing commitment to investing in our people and delivering the highest standard of care, we’re proud to support the continued education of our clinical team. 🧑‍⚕️

Recently, a number of our nurses attended specialised SPC/IDC training in Parramatta through the Australian College of Nursing and a day of Wound training onsite here at Harbison. This hands-on training strengthens their clinical skills, builds confidence, and ensures they are equipped with the latest best-practice knowledge.

At Harbison, we believe that empowering our staff through education not only supports their professional growth, but also enhances the quality of care we provide to our residents every day. 💙

Recently we had the pleasure of partnering with Bunnings Warehouse Australia Mittagong, to help bring our vision to life at our Moss Vale home.

The wonderful team generously donated flowers, trees, native plants, mulch and gardening equipment, and spent time onsite weeding, mulching and planting to transform the garden into a welcoming space for our residents.

We’re so grateful for their time, generosity and hands-on support in helping us create a space our community can truly enjoy. 🌿

Walk + Talks at Lake Alexandra with the wonderful students from St Michael’s Primary School have quickly become a highlight for our residents 🌿

From shared stories to plenty of smiles, this program has created such meaningful connections between residents and students. It has been incredible to watch these relationships grow week by week.

To wrap up Term 1, the students surprised our residents with handmade Easter cards and sweet treats, making for a truly special final walk before the school holidays 🐣

It was a beautiful reminder of the power of nature, movement, and the magic that happens when generations come together. We can’t wait to continue after the break 💛

Introducing Senstride, an exciting partnership between Harbison and led by Dr Justin Fong and the Human Robotics Laboratory team.

This innovative project is focused on reducing falls through the use of wearable technology. By developing smart devices and an app that can measure gait and identify fall risk early, Senstride is all about being proactive, not reactive, helping our residents stay safer, more confident, and independent for longer. With falls remaining one of the leading risks in aged care, this work represents an important step forward in how we support health and wellbeing across our homes.

Recently, we celebrated the completion of our February Monthly Challenge as part of the Senstride Project.

Our residents set out on a virtual 50km walk around Sydney, beginning on 2 February and crossing the finish line on 2 March 2026, an incredible effort that saw them clock up approximately 78,000 steps!

Joined by Dr Justin Fong, along with our Reablement team, residents came together to celebrate with a well deserved lunch, recognising the teamwork, determination and commitment that made it all possible.

A fantastic achievement and a powerful example of what’s possible when innovation meets motivation 💙

Harbison Stories: Meet Harold!

When he’s not playing Santa Claus or colouring his hair, Harold is bringing people together... one stitch at a time!🧶

A proud great-grandfather and passionate knitter, Harold creates beautiful baby blankets for Harbison staff welcoming new little arrivals, along with knee rugs for fellow residents.

“My hands are kept very busy. It makes me feel so good to know that I am helping other people as well,” he says.

Since moving to Harbison, Harold says he’s living a full and connected life, with improvements to both his physical and mental wellbeing.

“I couldn’t be happier. This is the best place anyone could live.” 💙💙

Recently, Harbison Board Member, Sarah Pryor, spent time in the kitchen at Harbison Moss Vale as part of a Buddy Shift, rolling up her sleeves and experiencing firsthand the incredible work our kitchen team does every day.👩‍🍳

From the moment she arrived, Sarah was put straight to work! While it may have been outside her comfort zone, she embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and gained valuable insight into the pace, teamwork and dedication that goes into preparing meals for our residents.

A big thank you to our amazing kitchen team who welcomed Sarah so warmly and showed her the ropes.

Opportunities like this help build a deeper understanding and appreciation for the vital work happening across Harbison every day.💙

Our Story

Harbison is a residential community providing aged care services for older people across two locations in Burradoo and Moss Vale in the Southern Highlands.

We offer the full range of care and lifestyle services to support older people as their needs change. This includes a range of aged care accommodation: independent living, home care, respite care, residential care, specialised dementia care and palliative care.

Our accommodation provides quality, integrated aged care and lifestyle services to our residents, enabling them to age in place. They experience a ‘continuum of care’ within a genuinely caring and social village-like environment without the need to move.

In 1956, Harbison was established in the Southern Highlands by a group of volunteers who recognised a high, local need for aged care services. After more than sixty years, we remain dedicated to serving the local community and are a thriving organisation, employing over 350 staff.
