Harbison

Harbison Harbison is a community-owned, not-for-profit organisation in the Southern Highlands of NSW.

For over 65 years, weโ€™ve supported people through every stage of life with trusted care, connection and wellbeing for all ages. Harbison is a community-owned not-for-profit approved aged care provider committed to safe and quality care services. We have two locations on the traditional lands of the Gundungarra people, at Moss Vale and Burradoo (Bowral), in the Southern Highlands of NSW. We offer t

he full range of care and lifestyle services to support older people as their needs change. This includes a range of aged care accommodation: specialised dementia care, respite care, residential care, home care, palliative care and NDIS. In 1956, Harbison was established in the Southern Highlands by a group of volunteers who recognised a high, local need for aged care services. After more than sixty years, we remain dedicated to serving the local community and are a thriving organisation, employing over 350 staff. We are proud of the history we have in this beautiful area and with the generations who live here. We truly believe we offer the best place to grow old in the Southern Highlands.

Last week our wonderful People & Culture team had the pleasure of attending the Oxley College careers day, connecting with students and sharing the many rewarding pathways within our industry.

From clinical and care roles to hospitality, administration, lifestyle, maintenance and beyond, it was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the wide variety of careers and growth opportunities available at Harbison.

It was great to see the students curiosity, questions and interest in learning more about the industry and how we do aged care differently.

At Harbison, we believe that supporting and investing in our staff through education, development and individual growth directly contributes to the exceptional care and experiences we provide for our residents every day.

Through initiatives such as our Harbison Leadership Development Program, we are committed to creating opportunities for our team to continue learning, growing and building meaningful careers within the sector.

Thank you to Oxley College for having us, we are proud to help inspire the next generation to consider a meaningful and fulfilling career in aged care ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Also in attendance were our partners UOW: University of Wollongong, Australia TAFE NSW Workplace Learning which was great to see!

Last week, as part of Harbisonโ€™s Leadership Development Program, some of our team had the opportunity to visit the beautiful Maggie Beer Farm in Adelaide.

It was such a wonderful experience to spend time together as a team while learning from Maggieโ€™s incredible story, passion, and approach to positive ageing, food, and connection.

One of the biggest takeaways from the visit was the reminder that meaningful mealtime experiences are about so much more than food. The ability to source fresh produce, cook with care, and share meals together creates connection, laughter, memories, and a real sense of community.

The day sparked valuable conversations and reflections around how we can continue enhancing wellbeing and quality of life for older people at Harbison through simple, meaningful moments that bring people together.

Thank you to Maggie and the team for your generosity and hospitality.
We left feeling inspired, energised, and full of ideas to bring back home to Harbison.

As we continue to celebrate National Volunteer Week, we are proud to recognise the incredible people who generously give their time, energy and heart to our Harbison community.

Peter has been volunteering with Harbison for four years, supporting our Intergenerational Programs and building meaningful connections with residents, children and staff alike. Hereโ€™s what volunteering at Harbison means to him ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’ฌ โ€œThis is my fourth year of volunteering at Harbison. Each week I look forward to helping with the Intergenerational programs and in particular, catching up with residents.

My favourite part of the role? The people, the smiles and laughter and the special interactions between young and old. The residents are great fun, interesting, grateful and appreciative of all that you do.

The staff are terrific to work with, being inclusive and making you feel a valued member of the team.

I would encourage anybody who is interested to just join in, as you will certainly find volunteering at Harbison a very rewarding and positive experience. Just do it!โ€

Thank you, Peter, for your ongoing dedication and for the positivity you bring to our community each week ๐Ÿซถ Volunteers like you help create moments of connection, belonging and joy across Harbison.

As part of National Volunteer Week, we are excited to shine a light on one of our newest volunteers, Bob! ๐Ÿšฒ

Bob joins Harbison as our fully trained Cycling Without Age pilot ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โœˆ๏ธ, helping bring joy, fresh air and meaningful connection to our residents through our newest program. A keen cyclist who loves a good chat, this role couldnโ€™t be more suited to him.

Every Tuesday at 9am, Bob will be taking residents on scenic rides around the beautiful Cecil Hoskins Reserve, giving them the chance to enjoy the outdoors, reminisce, connect and experience the simple pleasure of feeling the wind in their hair.

We are thrilled to have Bob on board as we officially get our Cycling Without Age program rolling. Thank you, Bob, for helping create moments of freedom, connection and joy for our residents. ๐Ÿ’™

This week is National Volunteer week!

From the earliest days of Harbison, volunteers have been at the heart of who we are, ๐Ÿ’™ helping to shape our journey as person-centred care provider and strengthen our connection to community support across the Southern Highlands.

What began with a small group of committed individuals in 1956 has grown into a lasting legacy, carried forward by generations who have generously given their time, energy, and care. Their belief in compassionate, high quality support has been central to Harbisonโ€™s ability to grow and adapt, and to the difference we continue to make in the lives of residents and families. Itโ€™s a powerful reminder of what community spirit can achieve over time.

Today, during National Volunteer Week, we pause to acknowledge and sincerely thank the volunteers who continue this tradition with us.

Spending time across generations is what makes our Grandfriends program so special ๐Ÿ’›

Recently, our residents enjoyed a wonderful afternoon with students from The Scots College Glengarry Campus , filled with board games (Mahjong is a huge favourite at Harbison), conversation, laughter and a special musical performance.

These visits create meaningful moments for both our residents and students, fostering connection, shared experiences and genuine friendships across generations.

Thank you to the students for bringing such energy, kindness and joy to our community. We always look forward to these special afternoons together.
