Today is R U OK? Day, a reminder to check in on those around us today and any day.

R U OK has shared four steps to start a conversation:

1. Ask R U OK?

2. Listen

3. Encourage action

4. Check in

Reaching out and checking in can make a real difference, especially when the mental load carried by carers and those living with dementia can often feel overwhelming.

A simple conversation can help.

That’s why during Dementia Action Week (15-21 September), we’ll be sharing resources and conversation starters to help you reach out – because nobody can do it alone and a conversation can change a life.

Visit the Dementia Action Week page on our website for more information and tips to help you connect or reconnect: https://www.dementia.org.au/get-involved/dementia-action-week

If you need support or information about dementia please know our National Dementia Helpline is available 24/7 on 1800 100 500 or https://www.dementia.org.au/get-support/national-dementia-helpline

🎨 Arts & Crafts at CURA 💐

Our CURA office was full of colour, music, and creativity at our latest Arts & Crafts Day! Clients came together to paint beautiful canvases and add finishing touches to jewelry we began making last week. ✨

It was more than just arts and crafts, it was a wonderful chance to sit together, share stories, enjoy classic hits from the 60’s 🎶, and express ourselves in a safe, welcoming space.

Moments like these remind us that creativity and connection go hand in hand and that’s what being part of the CURA community is all about. 💙

🚶‍♀️ Staying Strong, Staying Safe 💙

At CURA, we know how important it is to feel confident and secure in everyday life. This week, we hosted a Fall Prevention Session at our office giving our community practical tips on how to stay safe, strengthen their bodies, and reduce the risk of falls.

It was also a lovely chance for everyone to come together, catch up, and share stories over a cup of tea. 🌸

By combining education with connection, CURA continues to support older West Australians in living independently, safely, and well.

🌊 A Perfect Day on the River 🌞

Our clients recently enjoyed a wonderful day out on the water with Captain Cook Cruises (WA), travelling from Perth down to Fremantle and back again. The weather was beautiful, the river calm, and the day was filled with great food, drinks, and conversation.

A very big thank you to the fabulous crew who made it all possible! Nate, Leah, and Haddon were wonderful with special mention going to Nate for his kindness and attentiveness throughout the day, he truly went above and beyond.

And while we didn’t catch the captain’s name, he deserves our gratitude for making the thoughtful decision to wait for a few of our clients who were running a little late. Your patience meant no one missed out on a memorable day. 💙

It was a truly special outing, and we’re so grateful to everyone who made it possible.

🎲 Rummikub at CURA! 🌟

This week our Cura In-Home Care office was full of smiles (and a little friendly competition!) as some of our clients joined us for a lively game of Rummikub .

It was wonderful to see the tables buzzing with laughter, strategy, and connection. While the competition was fierce, the spirit of fun and friendship shone through, exactly what the CURA community is all about. 💙

Moments like these remind us how important it is to come together, share in activities, and enjoy each other’s company. We can’t wait for the next round!

🧠 Learning Together at CURA 🌸

This week, our People & Compliance Manager, Samantha Ball, led an engaging training session on Dementia Understanding, Trauma Informed Care, Mental Health & Resilience.

It was a valuable opportunity for our volunteers to deepen their knowledge, share experiences, and build confidence in supporting individuals and families living with dementia.

At CURA, we’re committed to equipping our volunteers with the skills and understanding they need to make a real difference in our community and training like this is an important part of that journey. 💙

📣 Supporting Our Community with Knowledge

CURA was proud to join the Dutch Club WA - Neerlandia recently, where our own Andrea Edmondson shared an important presentation on the upcoming changes to Home Care Packages, which will soon transition to Support at Home.

These changes can feel overwhelming, but CURA is here to help older Australians and their families understand what it means, answer questions, and provide clear guidance. 💙

Educational sessions like this are part of CURA’s commitment to supporting our community, ensuring everyone has the knowledge and confidence to make the right choices for their care and future.

If you’d like to know more about Support at Home and how CURA can assist you, please reach out to our friendly team.

At Cura In-Home Care, we believe life is best lived with connection, laughter, and care. 💖

Last week, we enjoyed a beautiful lunch together at the Harold Hawthorne Community Centre. Our clients were treated to a delicious meal, great company, and the fabulous entertainment of Kathy Carver 🎤

There was plenty of laughter, a few sing-alongs, and even a little dancing 💃🕺

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a special afternoon. We can’t wait to see you all again soon for more good food, good music, and good memories. 💖
