Su***de rates in Australia remain unacceptably high. Every year in Australia, more than 3,000 people die by su***de—nearly nine people a day. Su***de remains the leading cause of death for people aged 15-44, and the second leading cause of years of life lost, with over 159,000 years of potential life lost to su***de in Australia each year.
A staggering 75% of su***des are male, yet men constitute only 20% of those seeking su***de intervention support. More than one in five (22.8%) females saw a health professional for their mental health, compared with one in eight males (12.2%) (ABS).
To combat this, Men’s Health and Wellbeing WA (MHWWA) want to reach as many men as possible with an important message. Many young men face mental health challenges - help normalise mental health challenges and break the stigma, by sharing your story with friends and seeking professional help if needed.
The ‘Strength In Asking’ social media campaign encourages young men to share an experience online or impart advice to their younger self with the hashtag
Please share your mental health story on social media, and help break the stigma.
