Estrogen

That little ol’ hormone we don’t really notice until she starts get flakey on us!

If you’re a female over 40 your estrogen has started to decline… just go all over the place

Why should you care? Because:

❌ Loss of muscle mass

❌ Loss of bone density

And the kicker

❌ INCREASE in fat

😩

Not to mention estrogen works in all systems of the body… so you’ll notice things like:

❌ Brain fog - you know feeling, when you just can’t think of a word? THAT!

Are you a lady over 40 who’s never trained before?

If you haven’t seen it yet, you will soon.

💪 Strength training is all the rage for the over 40’s ladies and for good reason… it’ll help you look good, feel good, live longer (but not in that fragile chronic health kinda way… in a badass strong chick jacked up immune system kinda way)

Here are a few tips if you want to get into exercise and training.

The main boxes you need to tick:

1️⃣ Learn to do the exercises correctly. This is a skill you learn and practice over time.

2️⃣ Start light and ease into it. Your muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints need to adapt to the load.

⚠️ Go like a bull at a gate at your own peril… you will most likely end up with an injury, we DON’T want this for you!

3️⃣ Progress over time by increasing weight and sets.

Now go forth and get moving.

Ladies over 40 tend to put on weight for “no reason” … why?

Changes in hormones… the big one, estrogen.

The squat is one of the big (and best) exercises that we use when we train our clients.

Now, not everyone is going to jump straight under a massive barbell. That’s just asking for trouble 😬

Think about:

❓Are you new to exercising?

❓Do you have any injuries?

✅ Here are some variations all the way from a body weight squat through to a barbell back squat.

Should you train if you’re booked in to get a hip replacement?

Well… it depends…

If you go like a bull at a gate with your training, it’ll probably end in tears 😭🤣😭

If you do exercises that suit you & that’ll help you recover post surgery? Not a terrible idea 👌

Wiki had a client train with her leading up to his hip replacement.  

His exercises were modified to suit him so he could carry on training, without pain and without making anything worse.

The upside of training up to his surgery is that he continued to increase the strength & muscle around the hip.

This made for a good base to transition into post surgery rehab 😊
