This week we celebrated Mental Health Week by having a casual dress day and a visit from Tony Rabah, founder of The Male Hug. Our raffle raised awareness for the importance of talking about mental health and the proceeds went to supporting their mission.

Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary.” Fred Rogers

Talking about mental health can give us freedom to seek help, find people who can relate, and move toward well-being. Let’s continue the conversation about mental health. Together, we can work to stop the stigma surrounding issues many of us face!

We recently asked our patients about what they like about attending Delmont Day Programs. Here is what they said:

"Great facilitators who are clearly supervised, compassionate and very interested in the individual.”

“I love being able to learn and take in information that will benefit me in the long run for my emotional resilience."

"The program content is always new, vital and varied. "

The check-ins and teachings are important but I also find that the afternoon compliments the morning with the mindfulness activities.”

Meet Orla, Delmont’s Burwood Nurse Unit Manager.

Orla is a kind and compassionate clinician who enjoys being able to work alongside the lovely ward nurses and different departments across the Hospital. Orla has a heart of gold and is known for her dedicated work ethic, inspiring leadership skills, and of course, her quirky collection of socks.
When she finishes work for the day, Orla likes to unwind by indulging in her inner “couch potato” and watching Zombie movies. When asked about where she would go if she could time travel, Orla responded: “Back to my school years – the best years of my life. Long hot summers, no stress, everything was simple.”

Welcome to 2022!
Make this year the exceptional one!!!!!

Rather than setting the typical New Year’s resolutions like:
• Stop squeezing the tube of toothpaste from the end and not the middle
• Quit walking off with other people's pens
• Drink your coffee while it is hot
• Read more (or at least turn the subtitles on while binge-watching TV)
• Wake up before noon on the weekends

How about deciding on some New Year’s resolutions that strengthen your mental health like:
• Spend less time on social media – TikTok, Instagram, Snap Chat
• Treat yourself with the same compassion that you show others
• Prioritise spending at least 30 minutes per day tending to your self-care
• Increase your hydration take your water drink bottle with you wherever you go.
• Find moments that make you laugh

Hope these tips help make 2022 a year you can look back on and smile.
