St John (NSW) Community Services St John (NSW) Community Services was established in 1989 to provide services to the community in areas other than first aid.

Community Services supports approximately 400 volunteers who are actively involved in school based, early literacy and immunisation community programs, providing 8,000 volunteer hours. Program to aid literacy (PALs)
This volunteer program is designed to assist students in NSW primary schools experiencing difficulty with reading and writing. The program aims to develop the students’ literacy skills

and to enhance their confidence and self-esteem. Immunisation Program
This program is designed to provide assistance to the NSW Department of Health Immunisation Teams, who visit secondary schools to immunise students against a range of vaccine preventable diseases.

St John (NSW) runs Program To Aid Literacy courses (PALs) for parents, grandparents or family friends who want to improve a student's literacy skills.

The course runs over four days at locations across NSW.
