❓𝗟𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗔𝗤𝘀 – 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗲𝘁 𝗢𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 ❓️

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿?
No – many lumps are benign (non-cancerous). However, some can be more serious, so checking them early is always recommended.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗮 𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗽?
We perform a physical exam and may recommend a fine needle aspirate, where a very small needle collects a sample of cells for testing.

𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘁 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝘁?
Most pets tolerate lump testing very well. It is quick and usually does not require sedation.

𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗶𝗳 𝗶𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀?
We recommend checking new lumps sooner rather than later. Early diagnosis often means simpler treatment options.

𝗠𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗽𝘀 – 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴?

As pets get older, lumps become more common - but that doesn’t mean they should be ignored.
Some lumps are simply part of ageing, but others may need monitoring or treatment.

Common myths we hear:

❌ “It hasn’t changed, so we don’t need to check it”

Tracking changes is important because size, texture and growth rate can help guide next steps.

✨️𝙋𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩: 𝙈𝙞𝙨𝙨 𝙍𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙚 ✨️

Miss Rosie recently visited us for a mammary lumpectomy and proved she is one very 𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙙𝙮 🐾💖
Tail wagging and full of confidence, she happily said goodbye to mum and dad like a pro.

At 𝘽𝙮𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝙑𝙚𝙩, comfort is always our priority, so Rosie enjoyed plenty of pats, play time and of course… 𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙩 𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨 before her procedure.

Her recovery was smooth and full of warmth, snuggles and extra love from the team. We’re so happy to report Miss Rosie is doing wonderfully and back to being her happy, waggy self ✨

🐾 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐋𝐮𝐦𝐩 𝐈𝐬 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐲… 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐋𝐮𝐦𝐩 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Did you know many lumps in pets are completely benign?

Common non-cancerous lumps include:
✔ fatty lumps (lipomas)
✔ cysts
✔ warts
✔ histiocytomas (often seen in younger dogs)

However, some lumps can be 𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭 (𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬) and may require treatment or removal.
Because lumps can feel very similar on the outside, testing is often the only way to know what we’re dealing with.

What you can do at home:
🐾 Give your pet a gentle monthly pat-down
🐾 Keep an eye out for any new lumps
🐾 Monitor for changes in size or appearance

Finding lumps early often means more treatment options and better outcomes.

🔍 𝙁𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙖 𝙇𝙪𝙢𝙥? 𝙇𝙚𝙩’𝙨 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙘𝙠 𝙄𝙩 𝙊𝙪𝙩!

Lumps and bumps are very common in dogs and cats, and they can appear at any age.

They can be:
• small or large
• soft or firm
• fast growing or slow growing
• harmless or more serious

The tricky part? It’s often 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 what type of lump it is.

Some signs that a lump should be checked sooner rather than later include:
🔹 growing quickly
🔹 changing shape
🔹 firm or fixed in place
🔹 bleeding or ulcerated
🔹 bothering your pet
🔹 suddenly appearing

Many lumps turn out to be nothing to worry about – but early checks give us the best chance of simple treatment if something more concerning is found.

Many lumps are harmless - but some require treatment, and the earlier we assess them, the more options we have available.

As much as they’d love to help you eat it, 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀 because it contains 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲 & 𝗰𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗲, which affect the 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺.

𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹:
🚨 Cocoa powder & dark chocolate = biggest danger
⚠️ Milk chocolate = still unsafe

𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗰-𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲:
• Vomiting or diarrhoea 🤢
• Zoomies turned up to 100 ⚡
• Panting or fast heart rate ❤️
• Tremors or seizures

If your dog sneaks some chocolate, 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀 - 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝘁 𝗔𝗦𝗔𝗣! Early treatment = best outcome 🐾

🐾 “𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐧𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐩…” - 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬.✂️

Keeping your pet’s nails short is important for their comfort and health. Long nails can change the way pets walk, cause pain in their paws and joints, and may even split, break, or grow into the paw pad.

Many pets are happy to visit our nurses for a quick nail clip appointment (usually with plenty of treats and pats as payment 💰).

But for some pets, nail trims are 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹, and that’s okay! We can prescribe 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 to help reduce anxiety and make the experience safer and more comfortable for everyone involved.

If oral medications aren’t effective, we may recommend a 𝘃𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 so we can trim the nails safely while your pet is relaxed and stress-free.

Oral medications aren’t an option for him, so he visits us for a 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗺, complete with his favourite 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁 (apparently this is also how he sleeps most nights).
